PSO2 Vita Releases Feb 28th, 2013; Closed Beta Test in January; December Update

Posted by Ricardo

Sakai updated with some more information about the PSO2 Vita package and PSO2 PC’s December update.

Today SEGA has officially announced they will be releasing the Japanese Vita version of Phantasy Star Online 2 on February 28th, 2013. In addition, there will be a Closed Beta Test starting mid January 2013.

Along with the release, PSO2 Vita will also be sold separately in a “SPECIAL PACKAGE” which includes several bonuses players can redeem. Just like the Windows PC version, PSO2 Vita will be Free to Play and Free to Download. The game will be supported through “Cash Items” players can optionally purchase. The PSVita version can play on the same servers as the PC version and will also share the same play data.

In mid January, the Vita version will have its own Closed Beta Test where players will be selected to participate. Those that make it will also receive special gifts for participating. Recruitment will take place through the PlayStation Store from your PlayStation Vita. Signups will start sometime early December. More details about the signup process will be revealed in the future.

Players participating in the Closed Beta Test will have to raise their characters from scratch. However, in the official version, those that play the PC version can use their same characters on the Vita version. Anyone that starts from the Vita version can switchover to the PC version at anytime.

PSO2 in December!

Our next update scheduled for December is titled “The Place Where Darkness Gathers(or we can shorten it to”Where Darkness Gathers”).

Since this update is 4GB in size, starting next week it will be split up. (You may have noticed there was a PSO2 Pre-downloader in the main installation directory.) Next week expect to see new information from news magazines regarding PSO2 es, PSO2 Vita, and PSO2 PC’s update in December.

Ricardo, you might want to correct something. According to the main teaser site, you can only choose 2 out of a selection of 8 costumes, not that you'll get all 8 costumes. Kinda a bummer really.

Guess I overlooked that. Thanks.

That's a nice box. Reminds me of the PSP2/i one.

@Ricardo: Np. It's quite a disappointment though. Was hoping we'd actually get all 8 costumes.

PSP, PSP2 and PSO2 Vita all share the same boxart setup.

A better observation would be that we haven't seen that enemy shown yet.

Remius, this Skeletal Dragon supposedly is in the game files already.

A physical copy of the game?

Now I'm wondering… Since Vita games are not region locked, would I be able to import the game and continue playing my Japanese server character without having to switch my Vita to a Japanese account?

So, I can get my hands on a Vita this week for $150, but I don't know if I should go for it. Can Westerners connect to the JP server on the Vita? Will PSO2 Vita be coming out in the West?

Ricardo

@Anonymous, Your PSO2 account will be tied to your Japanese PSN account. So you'll have to switch accounts which will probably require a new memory card.

You need a Japanese PSN account to connect to the JP PSO2 Vita server. No announcement for PSO2 Vita international

You need a different memory card to switch between PSN accounts? Bummer. :/

@Ricardo That was the answer I needed, but didn't want to hear. Guess that saves me from importing the game. I might still try linking my EU PSN account to my JP PSO2 account. What's the worst that could happened?

Ricardo

November 22nd, 2012 at 4:30 pm

Your EU account wouldn't work in that case because you still need a JP PSN account.

@cobalt : there is a way for switching psn account without buying a new memory card

@Keiichan

Oh, really? Wow i haven't really been up to date with the mining progress.

Myau

@Azurisu you can switch accounts on vita easily but content is still locked on the memory card to the account that it is from. For example if i stick my jp account card while i'm logged in to my us account i can not use that memory card even if using a game card like my copy of project diva f it will not let me save data to it.

So in order to play this can i just buy a ps vita from gamestop? Or should i get an import?

cshard

What I'd really like to see is to not have my Sega ID linked to my PSN account. Still hoping we can log on to any account at will, even on the same memory card.

Ricardo

You don't have to import your PS Vita, since it isn't region locked. The memory card is the only major issue here. I think the game might be able to fit on a 8GB card, but to be absolutely safe, put it on the 16GB card.

I will buy a vita only for this. Can't wait.

Kind of disappointed to see Daiga Bigges coming in before the awesomeness that is the Shizuru Replica or the Judgement Coat, but at least they're giving Frontier Wing.

Does anyone have the feeling that male outfits are going to be more expensive than female outfits in this one, if not as expensive? I expect most people who are intent on selling the outfits to choose the female outfits, so there'll be a much, much greater supply.

;w; I want to buy them alllll. Hot guy outfits plx.

>added storage for everyone… >that uses OTP
why is sega so bent on rewarding people who can’t remember/protect a single password? how much did the company providing the OTP service pay them? /swt also… did rapidshoot even need a PP recovery boost? you get back 30 per charged salvo as-is.

If I have the account name and the password to my friend’s account then how can we get the email associated to the account? He can’t log in because he needs to enter a code sent to his email but he forgot it since he last played like a year ago.
He uses the same pass for all his email so if he knows the email it’s fine.
I checked the Sega website but couldn’t find it.

Heck, it may even relate to the Italian root of both, “bravo,” which can simply mean “skillful,” representing the ability of Braver to have the skill of using both long- and close-range weapons and abilities.
