Maximum Attack Infinity Changes

This post contains a mini update regarding different games.

Maximum Attack Infinity

With the Playstation Network down, the Maximum Attack Infinity Event on the Playstation Portable side has been postponed. Once PSN service is restored, please wait for a new date and time for the event to be announced at the official site.  Originally, Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity and Phantasy Star Universe would both contribute to a cumulative total based on the amount enemies they killed. Unfortunately this aspect is now canceled due to the current state of affairs. Instead, each game will have their own separate points and separate reward weapons.

The changes to the reward weapons will be revealed at the official PSP2i site in the future. Interestingly, this change came about after many Japanese players asked Sakai to change the reward weapons. Please keep in mind the changes to the reward weapons apply to the Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity side.

Maximum Attack Infinity Japanese Opinions

This section will update with various opinions from Japanese blogs and 2ch as to why they wanted the reward weapons changed.

Plus posts their opinion about the consequences of having 100% element for specifically the Eternity Gazer. According to Plus, Eternity Gazer is the most powerful shotgun that has already been confirmed to drop within the game. "When the extremely powerful Charge Shot 2 for shotguns is coupled with Eternity Gazer's 100% attribute, it would break the balance of the game. " Once a weapon like this releases to the public, it overpowers all other weapons within it's category. It might shrink the life of the game where you could just simply equip this weapon to pummel through everything.  "Even though Chou Hii might be too powerful, it can not compare to Eternity Gazer's 100%" Another problem with Eternity Gazer is that it's level requirements is high. It requires a level 160 player to use. Plus said they personally did not send out this demand to Sega.

Ginger simply wonders if the PSN outage didn't occur, would this change come about anyway?

Famitsu Interview

Sakai and Terada were interviewed by Famitsu Weekly, they will reveal a little behind the scenes story which should make for an interesting read. Information about the interview will probably be posted by Shougai.

Game No Jikan

PSO2's promo will be shown on today's Game no Jikan at Nico Nico. Keep in mind that PSO2's Official site will show the higher resolution promo movie later today. Sakai will talk about Illustration Contest for PSP2i, and show the Item Design Contest winners. (I'd love to see how PF Dinobite looks like in game!)

PSO2 is still For Windows PC!

Yesterday I had my own little fiasco where some misinterpreted the "focus on non PC gamers" to mean PSO2 was coming to consoles. The intent of that line was to show how they are trying to capture those who are not willing to play PC games and convert them over to PSO2. The exact specifics of what that meant, (for example, perhaps to ease their transition towards playing a PC game, allowing non PC gamers to play through a PC gamepad?) were not explicitly stated.

The first time the post was linked, the original intention was kept intact and everything was fine.  The second time it was linked, everything regarding PSO2 being PC only was thrown out the window, even though the official site, 1st promo video, and 2nd promo video clearly show Phantasy Star Online 2 is for Windows PC. As fun as it is to speculate whether the game will come to consoles, please keep in mind that at this time Phantasy Star Online 2 is a Windows PC game. There has been no announcements nor information made available to show that it is coming to consoles. I'm sorry for the confusion this caused.

Phantasy Star Eternal Hunters Event

Remember Phantasy Star Eternal, that game nobody cared about? Well they have now revealed the weapon you'll get for playing it on your Japanese mobile device with Flash Lite 1.1. Based on your GPS information, Phantasy Star Eternal Hunters will have players battle  different enemies and gather reports. The game is kicking off its first event called Infinity Festa. If you defeat all the characters that appear in Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, and Fukuoka you'll receive this lovely weapon for Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity.

It looks like you can choose  different status effects on what you want your weapon to have. I'm assuming this is for extending but I'm not entirely sure. The choices 4gamer listed were; burning, freeze, shock, and sleep.

Phantasy Star Eternal plans to release more weapons for Infinity in the future. For now, those who complete this task can receive the product code which you can enter into the Japanese Playstation Network if it ever comes back up.

Partner Cards Get!

As you know, Maximum Attack Infinity Event is postponed on the PSP side due to Sony's Playstation Network fiasco. Shougai reports from a followup news article from Dengeki Playstation, Rapico and Heathcliff Flowen's partner cards can be obtained within the Maximum Attack Infinity Event. Receiving both of their cards allows you to achieve their respective titles.

PSO2: Minor Website Update

Good morning! Phantasy Star Online 2 had a minor website update featuring the screenshots from 4gamer albeit smaller. A small notice states they are development images.

With PSO2, Sakai wants you to feel "surprised" and a sense of "discovery"  just like you did when you initially played PSO. As you all know, PSO2 is still for PC, it is a platform they chose for its high flexibility. As for trying to get as many people to play, so far we know this isn't a game where you absolutely need to buy a new PC to play.

"The elements you have seen in Phantasy Star Online 2 so far is just one of the many new pleasures you can experience. I think we may have a chance to talk about more details in an announcement before the alpha test starts. " ~Satoshi Sakai

You still have some time to sign up for the alpha test until May 20th, 2011. Afterwards Sega will announce the winners chosen sometime in mid-June.

I also signed up, so lets hope we all make it!

Notes from Sakai

Sakai posted a blog post about PSO2, it's more conceptual information than actual information, but regardless the game is currently before the alpha stage. Here are some selected notes. ( My Personal Commentary is in this color.)

  • These are development images. There still some more time until the alpha test, with many elements not in it (as of yet).  (So if you are thinking, "well they removed this aspect/feature" just be patient until the final version.) There's still more information about PSO2 to be revealed, right now you've only seen just one portion of the entire thing.
  • This project was started to allow many people with PCs to readily play this game. There's no need for you to think that you need the latest PC to play because the game's graphics can be adjusted.
  • Yes the PC allows for the game to be better graphically, and certainly graphics are important. However, we aren't making this game to show off a tech demo, we want to make a game for everyone to enjoy.
  • In addition, I cannot say that I am satisfied with this, it is currently in a stage before the alpha. I want to continue polishing it up in the future.
  • PSO2 faces many challenges and one of the challenges is to focus on those who don't play PC games. More challenges will be revealed in the future. (Since people are misinterpreting this, it means to convert those who are unwilling or afraid to play PC games. This has nothing to do with a console version.)

Once the high resolution movie comes out at the official site, he's going to talk more about the "world" of PSo2. So maybe we'll learn more about the Arks, Oracle, and this evil.
