Friend Search Mode: Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity

The official site updated with the Episode 1 characters and the communication and Friend Search. Since we already know about the official characters, and Communication methods, lets jump right into Friend Search.

But to recap, you can now use predictive text functions to type to friends, use autowords and text shortcuts, and take screenshots.

Friend Search

Friend Search Mode can transfer your character and your mission code through passive communications. It works by passing by other people with the game currently running in some manner on the PSP. You can store up to 5 character data at a time, but ultimately you can register them into 32 character slots.

The characters you have registered as a "Friend Character" can become partner characters in your game. You can then go on missions together with them. The data that transfers is not only their appearance, but their photon arts, abilities, and auto words, regardless of what level they have.

Support Character

Your friends give out Photon Art disks!

Other than the story characters, you can invite the characters you received through Friend Search.  When you invite "Friend Characters" with you on missions, you can increase their "Friendship Degree." When it is high enough, they will give out Photon Art Disks. The higher your character's level, the higher the photon art disks your Friend Character will give you.

My Characters become Partner Characters

You can now invite characters that you made yourself into a partner character. You can enjoy a psuedo-online play if you edit each of your character's auto word.

Whats the Difference Between
"My Character" and "Friend Character"?

So over the past months we've been getting tiny nuggets of information regarding Friend Search and Partner characters. Since we are going by Sega's terminology, (Like how Infinity Missions and Infinity Rank Missions are two different things…) here's a small guide of information of what's known so far between "My Character" and "Friend Character"

Characters that exist on your save file that you personally created are called "My Characters".  These characters can become "Partner Characters" when you invite them to a party.

  • My Characters in a party.
    • When you invite your own created character…
    • Their Level stays the same and does not gain EXP
    • This means if you are level 1, you can invite your other higher level save file characters.
    • (Ex: Me Lv1 + Jay Lv10 + Champaigne Lv30: together in  a party.)
    • (Ex: 1 hour later. Me: Lv 11 + Jay LV 10 + Champaigne Lv30)
    • I have created all those characters. Notice Champaigne and Jay never leveled up but I did.

Registered characters that you receive via Friend Search are called "Friend Characters." These characters can become "Partner Characters" when you invite them to the party.

  • Friend Characters in a party.
    • Their level is based on the party leader's level regardless of their original level.
    • (Ex: Me Lv1 + You become Lv1)
    • (Ex: Me LV50 + You become Lv50)
    • Friend Characters weapons are handled automatically and can change.
    • A Friend Character may show lower ranking weapons if their level drops based on the party leader.
    • (Ex: Me LV1 + You LVL 200 (originally) but You become LV1)
    • (Low ranking weapons will replace the Friend Characters original weapons. )
    • If you want to see the original weapons, the party leader's level needs to be high enough.

We don't have enough information at this time over the exact intricacies on what weapons show up at such and such level.  Just know that the weapon they originally had is replaced by a lower ranking weapon in the same category.

  • He eats calorie mates which can "MAX" the Blast Gauge.
  • This is a weapon

    • Depending on the Technic Level the amount of fireballs can increase.
    • Initially it starts off at two fireballs at lower levels.

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity Demo Information: Japanese

Get Ready! Starting this January 2011, you can download the Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity Demo for free from the Japanese Playstation Store. This post will get you up to speed on what to expect, and how to connect, and will update automatically when new information is available.

Demo Information

  • Demo Information
    • Available January 11, 2011.
    • Requires 600MB+ on Memory Stick
    • Requires Japanese Playstation Network Account
    • Internet Multimode requires Download of Infinity Trial License (Limited Supply)
    • Infinity Trial License available on January 20th, 2011 at the Japanese Playstation Store
    • Demo Version can not cooperatively play with Full Version players.

*Demo contents and date are subject to change at any time by Sega's discretion.

Player Caps

This is a very ambitious demo. With a character you can go up to Level 100, and your class (type) level to 20. You can also import all data from your Phantasy Star Portable 2 Japanese save. If your character is above Level 100 and type level 20, your character's status will stay as it is and will not gain any EXP or Type Points.

But why not use this opportunity to level another character up to 100?

Play Episode One and Episode Two!

Now you can choose between Episode 1 and Episode 2. Episode 1 has been extended since the previous demo. In Episode one, you can play through Chapter two. In Episode two, the prologue portion of the story is available.

You can start a new game and play through Story Mode with a new race called the Deuman!

Three "Networking" Modes

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity has Multimode, Internet Multimode, and a new feature called Friend Search! In order to play over the Internet, you must download an "Infinity Trial License" from the Japanese Playstation Network!

Entry is limited, so you must download this license as soon as possible. There will not be a "lottery" like last time so you are free to obtain it while supplies last!

Once the Full Retail version releases, the Demo's Internet Multimode trial will expire.

So What is Friend Search?

Friend Search allows one to exchange your own character with random people you pass by on the streets of Japan. At the same time, you will receive other players' character data which you can import into YOUR game. You can also exchange a Mission Code with random people using this method!

Please note, the Demo Version and the Full Version can not cooperatively play together through Multimode (Ad-hoc mode) this time.

Infinity Mission and Visual Lobby

Through Internet Multimode, you can experience a new lobby (kind of like PSO) to meet up with players and chat! This is where the stress test of the Infinity Trial will begin. Sega is testing to see how well the Visual Lobby holds up to network connections.

If you imported your character, your partner card and black list is also inherited so you can play comfortably. Why not try out the new predictive text feature that types out words and finishes sentences based on what was written.

Infinity also introduces a new concept called Infinity Missions. These allow you to create your very own mission by mixing together "Mission Codes". In the Demo you can experience this feature with some limitations of course.

Collaboration Items and DLC

You can insert collaboration items in your game by inputting a special password. With Kentucky Fried Chicken, Calorie Mate, Nico Nico, Vocaloid and Gurren Lagann announced so far, which of these will make it to the demo?

In addition, Download Missions will also be distributed to players of the demo!

Transfer ALL of your Save Data

Did you know, with Phantasy Star Portable 2, you can transfer ALL save data over to Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity! All of this data can also be transferred to Infinity's Demo, however, because of certain limitations imposed on the demo, you won't be able to use certain content.  But once you obtain the full retail version, you can transfer this demo data over to the full game. Any restrictions that were placed on your characters/game are now lifted!

The maximum amount of characters you can have on one save file is still 8. The demo will support more Open and Tactical missions than last time, and will allow for a mission difficulty of C/B/A rank. (Sakai mentions in a side note that you can eventually expect S rank missions. I'm assuming this means it is a DL Mission)

Also a new type of mission called the "Training Mission" can be experienced for new players. You can also play a small portion of battle missions, challenge missions, and customize your room. The music that is played in your room is always the default song. (aww man..)

Some features not included in the demo is the Rebirth feature, which you can try out in the full version!
