PSP2i: Grinding Change; Sword Replica

DPS

Dengeki says they will release a SPECIAL interview with Sakai. This interview will be revealed December 22nd, 2010. He'll cover news about the near completed ROM and whatever had to be omitted from the last issue.

Also some correction with Infinity Missions from Dengeki.

Look an Ob Lily!

  • Infinity Missions
    • Drop Boost: Rises when you defeat regular enemies.
    • Attribute Bonus: The Attribute rate is granted.

It appears the original text said the EXP and the Attribute rate was boosted so they just wanted to correct that information before it got out. Shougai didn't post it anyway so I figure they caught the mistake.

Some Changes

Today was a very short post about the upcoming Sega Expo that Rapico has been tweeting about. It looks like they are constructing a replica of Nagisa's Steel Hearts.

The Steel Hearts reconstructed in real life!

He mentioned that the photon arts that were tweaked as published in a magazine article (most likely about Blade Destruction, but he didn't specify which photon art… ) these tweaks apply to all photon arts and not just some of them. The details about these adjustments will be mentioned in the future on the blog.

The next part is a change in the weapon grinding system. Infinity will no longer have random values assigned when grinding weapons. If you transfer your character from PSP2 to Infinity, all weapons grinded/extended are transferred with a  maximum value.  He just says not to worry about it.

Grind Significance?

It seems kind of random that Sakai removed grind variations or does it…?

Shougai's Interpretation

  • Grind Changes
    • The "grind variance" (increases ATK  power value per grind) has been abolished.
    • (PSUBLOG Comment: When you grind weapons, it increases the atk power by a random number. It could be +5~13 atk power each time though the exact value is based on the weapon category. But something is wrong here…)
    • The stats added by grinding is now a set value.
    • It's not necessary to reset your game to try for a different grind value.
    • When you transfer data from PSP2, your "grind variance" changes to the "maximum value"
    • (So the details about this maximum value is what's missing.)
    • The grind variance of imported weapons are corrected.

Since covering news of the Japanese version of PSP2, I've always known that when we grind weapons we have a random number assigned to the grind. If you wanted to change this number you had to restart the game. Now that Sakai is removing this grind, the purpose of this revision is to possibly match what's currently in the International version.

PSUPedia noticed initially when you grind in the International version, you have a set grind (so this news doesn't apply to us anyway), plus you have a higher set grind than the Japanese version.  Whatever this maximum value is, it can either match up with the International version or could be a new value entirely. Basically it appears the Japanese benefit from this change anyway.

As for our fate, I don't know, but it seems possible we are the pioneers of what Infinity's grinded values are.  Hopefully in the future, Sakai or News magazines will shed some light on what's actually going on.

The voice actors of Nagisa and Wynarl can be heard in the Character Creation. But you already know it won't sound exactly like their characters in the game.

PSP2i: New Screenshots, New Technics Sazonde and Sabarta

Today 4gamer and various other sites talked about information regarding Friend Search and the various new technics described in the previous post. Since this information is somewhat old, we'll just do a quick recap of Friend Search, the new technics and the enemies.

Friend Search

Friend Search allows one to transfer characters back and forth via their PSP. This function works in Sleep Mode and Story mode. Once you pass by others throughout your daily life, your PSP will obtain up to 5 character data. With this data you can save these characters as friend characters and store up to 32 friends. But be warned! If you turn off the PSP you will lose the character data you collected. You can turn this feature on or off during the main menu by pressing the Triangle button.

I can acquire up to 5 character data at a time!

Friend Search characters have Mission Codes set on their character data, which you receive  once you obtain them. You also receive a key thing which can be use to create mission codes.

Set amongst this list of mission codes you'd like to give out to others.

Characters you receive from Friend Search and characters you created on your save file can all join a party together and become a support character (NPC). Specifically regarding Friend Search Characters, (not your save file characters), their autowords, abilities, photon arts, and appearance is transferred over. Your friend character's strength is adjusted automatically in proportion to your level.

Choose among your other characters, or friend characters to invite to party.

Characters that you personally created are known as "My Characters" and just like Friend Characters their appearance, photon arts, abilities and auto words are carried over. However unlike friend characters, "My characters" have their original level and original equipment.  Their level and equipment stay as is! (No Exp…  No leveling them up..)

When I invite my own character, "Knuckles", his level stay as is…

So by now you should understand that the levels for "Friend Characters" are not the same as  "My Characters."

Force up!

Forces have new features up their sleeves to help ease them into playing this game. Firstly, now you can block with rods by not setting the back palette of the Rod. Also you can now use technics while strafing with the wand and TCSM.

I can cast Foie while strafing! Cool Huh?

I can Just Guard (Exact Block) with rods! Cool huh?

Six New Technics

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity adds six brand new technics for forces. (In the previous post you can read up on the recently revealed Samegid, and Diverse..) We'll display three of the new technics here.

Sabarta casts a snowstorm in front of you.

Sabarta users casts a snowstorm in a straight line in front of you in an extensive area . This hits enemies consecutively, so it becomes very easy to chain distant enemies using this skill.

Sazonde a lightning technic

Unleash a cluster of lightning to your foes! This technic can launch enemies to the sky. Even if you were to change weapons, It doesn't vanish and can damage the enemy.

Nagrants a new light technic

With Nagrants you fire 3 laser bullets to a locked on enemy. In the path of an arc, it can shoot enemies. A very convenient technic that hits distant enemies.

Hyuga Ryght

It's time to meet that man of mystery, Hyuga Ryght. “Hyuga Ryght, 20 years old and a Dewman. At one time he has worked diligently with Ethan Waber, and has perfected his sword skills since then.  He’s been pretty much incognito here and there for quite some time. With his handsomely good looks and persuasive speech, he has charmed many a women. Yet he’s still prudent after being transformed into a Dewman. He has accepted this transformation as the Holy Light’s guidance. However, he can not resist the urge to look at women, so he has taken the opportunity to introduce himself to that one researcher known as Emilia.”

Wouldn't you thank the Holy Light for bringing us together?

Enemies

Evaras, he's a soldier type Stateria.

Garanz, reconstructed from data obtained from Rykros
He shoots missiles from his shoulders.

Gurhal Gossip Gurl 3

This is an alternate description of Dengeki Magazine's information instead of going through Shougai's descriptions, though nothing has changed. Selected a few interesting ones..

  • Charge Shot II
    • Besides the shooting attribute, striking, and force attributes have been added to Charge Shot II.
    • (Same thing, essentially you can have a case where you can overpower weapon type resistances an enemy has through charge shot II. Each Charge Shot II has one? of those three attributes assigned to it.)
    • LongBow: You jump up and fire rapidly  to the ground. This resembled the 3rd attack for Dus Majarra.
    • (I'm starting to think Dengeki means the second attack for Dus Majarra but without pics I'm not sure. The third attack is kind of a swipe, whereas the second attack would resemble arrows rapidly firing on the ground.)
  • Weapon Balances
    • Sword: The Sword's swing speed is faster. From the third attack, you can  Just attack by Photon Arts.
    • (I never had a problem doing this…)
    • The Twin Saber Photon Art, "Blade Destruction" power has slightly decreased.
  • Infinity Mission
    • A mission code can drop from the Boss boxes.
    • (Well sakai has said you can get mission codes inside infinity missions so no surprise here.)
  • Technics
    • Nagrants: Shoot balls of light that pursues a locked on enemy. Their trajectory resembles the "Card" weapon type.
  • Other stuff
    • Duman's stamina is extremely low, they can easily be affected by status effects.
    • Wynarl has comedic dialogue, and has a connection with Mika and Kumhan but Sakai didn't want to spoil.

2ch comment,  "While reading the magazine at the store, I saw that if you rebirth at level 100 you get 60 bonus point. At high levels bonus points tend to increase. And some parameters(stats) require more bonus points than others."

The Online Lobby of Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity

Today Sakai featured the Visual Lobby for Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity. It's not quite the same as Phantasy Star Online but has some similar aspects to it. Originally PSPo2's online server was only used for creating and joining parties, but now in Infinity, the server has added a visual lobby.

The online screen opens up with selecting universes. Even though there's 5 in this screenshot, Sakai has not decided how many universe servers the game will have in the final version.

At the bottom of this screen you will see two key items you can select. The circle button is for those who want to enter the lobby, and the triangle button is for those who wish to enter the old method of joining parties.

If you select the lobby option you'll be whisked away to the brand new visual lobby where up to 12 players can join at a time. This is the size of three full parties meeting inside one lobby.

The right lower corner contains the lobby's name. So in this screenshot they have entered the SKY-04 lobby. Each lobby name consists from 10 colors, with a suffix of numbers 1~30.

ロビーカウンター Lobby Counter

One can view the party list パーティーリスト just like the previous game from selecting the top choice here. You can also select the Lobby List  ロビーリスト button to choose a random list of  20 different lobbies. Use the Universe Selection ユニバース選択 to change universes.

And like we mentioned last time, you can enter the Playstation Store by selecting Online Shop オンラインショップ.

ロビー作成 Lobby Creation

In this menu you create your own lobby by selecting it's color name and number. Though this could result in duplicate lobby names.

ロビー検索 Lobby Search

Now you can search for a lobby,  the ones which you can enter are displayed, but there are cases where there are duplicate lobby names. You can check to see who is in the lobby from the search results before you enter it.

If everyone leaves the lobby, then the lobby disappears.

大型モニター Huge Monitor

Behind the characters you'll see this huge monitor. It contains news and information about the  latest events, contests and such. Unfortunately this lobby will not have chair races and soccer, but you can still perform lobby actions and chat.

Question and Answer Session

In regards to if you can go to your room or missions from the visual lobby…

While you are in the visual lobby you can not go to your room or directly to a mission. You must still create a party at the lobby counter to access those stuff.

In regards to if you must be in the same lobby to join the same party…

Regardless of which lobby you are in, everyone accesses the same party list (for that server). So people in different lobbies can still join your party.

If you can change your weapons and equipment while in the lobby…

You can not change your equipment while you are actively in the lobby. Since the game is showing 12 player characters at a time, some features have to be restricted in this state. You can still send emails and exchange partner cards while in a lobby. But if you want to change your equipment you should make a party.

If you can make password protected lobbies…

You can not make password protected lobbies. All lobbies are public. If you would like a private engagement you should start a password protected party.

What music does the visual lobby use….

The visual lobby uses a particular track from Phantasy Star Online titled "Day Dawns"

What colors does the lobby use?

There's 10 colors and this post will get really long showing all ten colors so I'd ask you to see the variations on Sakai's blog. There are the colors, RED, BLUE, YELLOW, GREEN, ORANGE, SKY, PURPLE, PINK, WHITE, and BLACK.

Orange Lobby for Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity.

The Green Lobby!

The Red Lobby.

PSO Monuments

Remember a while back we mentioned the monuments from PSO were in this game. Here's the small tiny screenshot from the guidebook. We've visited Ragol through VR recreation in Pspo2. Does this mean we have finally crossed over for real this time?

Additional Comments

Well you know how our servers seem to attract lonely singles seeking a girlfriend or boyfriend to date on a PSP game. I'm reading 2ch about the prospected exchanges that will happen in this new visual lobby. Even the Japanese players have to put up with it.

"How old are you" "Are you a girl?" "Where do you live?" "Is this (tainted) weapon ok?" "Furniture please!" "Can someone teach me how to cheat?" "The Black Guild is recruiting!"

Hmm it does sound like our servers…

Dengeki Magazine

Shougai PSO obtained the latest information from Dengeki Magazine. The information below is currently being updated…

  • The six new technics
    • Foverse (Fire)
    • Sabarta (Ice)
    • Sazonde (Lightning)
    • Diverse (Ground)
    • Nagrants (Light)
    • Samegid (Dark)
  • Sabarta
    • A "snowstorm" is released in a wide area in front of the player
    • The snowstorm stays in place during a fixed time.
    • The monster recieved damage once it's hit by this snowstorm.
    • SG Comment: It is unknown whether the monster gets a status effect and is launched/knockback/etc…
    • Sabarta can add to the chain count until it disappears.
  • Sazonde
    • We know that it's a lightning ball technic that can launch and shock enemies.
    • Sazonde can add to the chain count until it disappears.
  • Diverse
    • A new ground "Recovery type" technic
    • It can absorb PP from nearby enemies but gives no damage.
    • If you keep pressing down the button, the technic can be used for a longer period of time.
  • Samegid
    • A new dark technic that's described as a "gravitational field"
    • For a set amount of time it stays at one place.
    • Damage is given to enemies, it is unknown if status effect occurs or enemies launch/knockback..
    • Samegid can add to the chain until it disappears
  • Charge Shot I
    • The time it takes to charge is shortened.
    • SG Comment: It is unknown if this applies to "Full Charge Shot"
  • Charge Shot II
    • Each Charge Shot II possesses a different characteristic among these three listed below:
    • A characteristic like  "Striking"
    • A characteristic like  "Shooting"
    • A characteristic like  "Force"
    • Based on these characteristics, the given damage is calculated and a "resistance determination" is performed
    • (I believe this works in the way where some enemies would be resistant to striking, or some resistant to technics so less damage was given)
    • Only with shooting weapons can you compete against all the resistances.
  • Charge Shot II Rifles
    • Shoot a bullet up into the sky and it rains down on the enemy.
    • The number of hits the bullet give is amazing but the exact number is not identified.
    • There is some time before the bullet falls sort of like a bomb.
  • Charge Shot II Shotguns
    • Unleash a huge bullet that collides with enemies within a short distance.
    • Since the bullet is soo big, the hit accuracy is high.
  • Charge Shot II longbows
    • After jumping upwards, the arrow fires blindly as it points towards the ground.
    • The animation was described like "Dus Majara's 3rd combo"…
  • Charge Shot II machine gun
    • You fire blindly around your surroundings.
    • So if you are surrounded by monsters, you will fire all around you.
  • Weapon Balances
    • The sword is tweaked a bit. From the 3rd normal attack, the photon art "just attack" is possible.
    • The axe, the number of hits in the first normal attack has changed to two.
    • Twin saber, "Blade Destruction" was weakened.
    • Longbow, First Person view will now give more powerful damage.
    • Shields, their damage has raised. Just Guard attacks even more useful…
  • Fusion Codes
    • You can improve the attribute percentage of a weapon when you synth the same weapons together.
    • Fusion code can be obtained by importing PSP2 to infinity.
  • Training Missions
    • Fulyen Curtz will be your instructor!
    • Learn the basics of the game for first time players.
    • You get a reward by completing all training missions.
    • SG Comment: Maybe the reward is the Partner card? Hahaha..
  • Planet Treasure
    • You get treasure by completing the designated Infinity Mission
    • It assigns which Infinity Mission you should do at random.
    • It can assign multiple infinity missions you should do.
    • As long as you complete one of the designated missions, you'll get the treasure.
    • This is sort of like Client Orders…
  • Episode 2
    • There's less chapters than the PSPo2. The exact number was not specified but it must be less than 10.
    • The script in episode 2 is 2/3 of Episode 1.
    • (PSUBlog Comment: So I know we've been told so far that the story is 50% more than episode 1. Either they changed their minds or we have less text and longer missions.)
  • Boss Total Count
    • The amount of bosses in this game is "double the amount shown so far to the public" as said by Satoshi Sakai.
    • In otherwords we know 3 Bosses so far, Olga Flow, Geel Zohg, and Dyla Bravas.
    • (I guess now there's 6 new bosses?)
  • More Collaborations expected
    • More Collab partners are expected even after the game releases. There is a possibility more collaborations will be released as download content for the game.
  • 90 % Done
    • The game is 90% done and is currently in debugging and testing phases.
