Unit Extension
Unit Extension allows you to overwrite the basic stats of your armor. Units which originally had poor stats, can be extended enough times to make them suitable in higher difficulties.

Unit Crafting Drawbacks
Unit Extensions do come with some major drawbacks. Mainly, each unit in the game comes with hidden stats for MEL/RNG/TEC Resistances, as well as HP and PP increases. When you craft a unit, all of these are overwritten, which can lead to issues as you reach into SH and above. You can try to alleviate this by performing the specialized crafting recipes that show up at Ex Lvl 3, 8, and 10.
Specialized Crafting
Specialized Crafts become available once your [Equipment Crafting Lvl] reaches Lv. 20. You can raise your [Equipment Crafting Level] by unlocking new recipes from completing the crafting achievements. These crafting recipes have to be unlocked individually as they are based on how far you've gotten with Leg, Arm, or Rear crafting within their defensive type.
There are three types of specialized recipes:
- XXX MEL DEF [HP]
- XXX RNG DEF [PP]
- XXX TEC DEF [Element]
Each of these recipes have the same DEF stats as the normal crafting recipes, except that they add the hidden resistance stats.

Once you perform the Lv3 specialized defense of the specific unit type, the Lv8 of that version will unlock. In addition, once you perform Lv8 of that specialized craft, you'll unlock Lv10 of that specific type.
Dismantling Units
Rear Unit crafts usually require Rear materials, and Arm Unit crafts usually require Arm materials, etc. You can acquire materials by dismantling units you no longer need. Unit crafts also require PA Fragments which can be obtained by dismantling PA discs.
The harder the difficulty in obtaining the Unit, the more materials you'll receive from it.
