April Fools 2011 In Japan
Even as Japan goes through the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami, they have still kept their sense of humor by posting their own various April Fool Jokes and parodies across the web. Here’s a few we found interesting.

So I know what you’re thinking, whats up with all these muscular men (gachi muchi) parading this page? Well TKB48 parodies an popular all female idol group known as AKB48. It consists of 48 members split amongst three different group. A special “Internet provider” has created TKB48 a new generation of an energetic all male idol group. The group’s purpose is to not be bound or tied up..
Unfortunately these images were edited, but the original intention was to show various Internet providers and how they bind you into a 2 year contract. The group can be seen in various gyms around Japan. See if you can find them!
The real purpose of this page is actually to advertise for the Internet Provider GMO TokuToku BB. But I must say they’ve done a clever way of integrating Twitter and voting into an April Fool’s site.

You can take calls, take pictures and navigate the screen by utilizing the squid’s tentacles. After a while it will dry up in the sun and break apart, but you can of course use it in a meal if you want to.

So what is it like to play a side scrolling shooter with 48 other players? Sounds fun right? But the entire machine is one extremely long screen. The player’s ship will appear at the left most screen. Unfortunately, the player who is at the right most seat will have to wait a whole minute before their ship reaches to them. Taito plans to acquire a Guinness world record with it.
A few sites referenced AC Japan’s commercials. AC Japan is the equivalent to the Ad Council commercials in America (which usually depict current social issues like drugs, pregnancy, and guns.) In Japan however, the commercials in rotation features cartoon characters saying “hello” and other various greetings and phrases. According to my friend, after the earthquake hit, many of the regular advertisements on TV were replaced by AC Japan ads. After playing these ad nauseam, people began posting new remixes and parodies.

Popopo-Phone, you’ll want to stay very far away…
One such April Fools parody is the Popopo-Phone featuring the rabbit character from the AC Japan ads. This phone comes with only one ringtone and can perform greeting phrases automatically. Most of the comments say this phone is cruel, but you could understand why if you were to play the song below over and over after every commercial break.
