Child of Eden at PAX East: Release Date June 14, 2011
Child of Eden for the Xbox 360 on June 14th, 2011. It will also release for the Playstation 3 some time in the future. Last week at PAX EAST, we learned some minor details about the gameplay mechanics.
The game is set up with different archives before jumping in. The interface has space for five archives. So far the known archives are “Matrix“, “Evolution” and “Beauty“. Each archive tracks your rank, purification, support items, and rewards.
Players can lock onto targets by moving a reticle across the screen with their right hand. Players can then perform an Octo-lock by locking onto 8 targets on screen at once. You can release your bullets by thrusting your hand towards the screen. If you release it to the beat of the music, you’ll receive additional bonuses.
Additionally you can attack by using your left hand. This form of attack is known as the Tracer. This will allow you to shoot down purple enemy fire, which can only be destroyed with the Tracer. Thus, you’ll have to adjust to switching between Tracer and Octo-Lock depending on what you are targeting.
At the bottom of your screen you will see a life gauge in the shape of a flower. It will lose its petals each time you are damaged.
Within each archive you will notice these “gates” which work almost similar to the ones in Rez. They have 16 prongs, which when destroyed, allow you to enter the next subdivision of the archive.
