Tales of Xillia: Double Raid Linear Motion Battle System
Tales of Xillia, currently exclusive to the Playstation 3, utilizes a new battle system coined as the Double Raid Linear Motion Battle System. Some small details were given out today regarding the style.
In Tales of Xillia characters can Link up with each other.
The DR-LMBS uses two values for action. Your common attacks will be under the “Assault Counter” value, abbreviated “AC“. For any kind of attack you’ll use up 1 point. The Assault Counter automatically restores points after the attack. It is not used up by movement or performing an act of defense. The point of the AC system is to chain up a combo of attacks and Artes for as long as the AC can support it. (Of course you will use up a large quantity of TP if you use a large number of Artes.)
The second system which many Tales fans know all too well is the TP or Technical Point. This system will be used for Artes and the amount used up is different based on what Arte it is used. Unlike AC, TP does not recover automatically and must be restored using an item or by various actions during battle.
When in Link Mode, the two characters are connected by a beam of light
Usually in Tales of games you control one character during battle, but in Xillia you can now link up with any character in the party and fight as a pair! The character you are currently controlling becomes the “MASTER” of the link. Their partner becomes connected to them through beams of light.
Your partner can help you out with attacks!
For example, the linked character and master character can attack from the flanks. In another situation, the linked character could attack the enemy who’s approaching the master from behind. The linked character could also protect the master from receiving consecutive attacks. Situations like these and more can be possible within the game.
