Child of Eden: How to Play, Soundtrack Details, And More [PS3 and Xbox 360]
After a few interviews we finally understand how to play Child Of Eden in some sense. Let’s get a basic rundown about information currently known so far.
Release: Child of Eden will be released for Playsation 3 and Xbox 360 around June 14th, 2011. The game will feature support for “Kinect” and will also support standard controllers. Child of Eden price is currently $59.99 and is available for preorder.
Game: Child of Eden is a musical multi sensory first-person shooter heralding some aspects of Rez with a extreme visual and audio upgrade. It’s described as multi-sensory due to the audiovisual and vibration feedback you’ll experience. Tetsuya has been developing this game for the past two years.
Plot: Child of Eden thrusts you in the center of a battle to save Project Lumi, a mission to reproduce a human personality inside Eden, the archive of all human memories. As the project nears completion, the archive is invaded by an unknown virus. The player’s mission is to save Eden from the virus to restore hope and peace.
Within the game players will be purifying viruses which will evolve the environment to become even more bright and colorful.
Child of Eden places a circular cursor on the screen with two modes of firing. With the Microsoft Kinect, by using your hand to hover over the enemies you will lock-on to them with a number of missiles. This style is known as the Glove Gun. By flicking your palm, sort of in the sense of throwing something away, your missiles will be released. Clapping your hands changes the weapon type to a machine gun like style called the Vulcan Cannon, this will shoot enemies continuously.
Tetsuya describes the Kinect play style like conducting an orchestra, though you can still play the game using a regular videogame controller as well. With a regular controller, players will feel vibration sensations in sync with the music.
Child of Eden’s soundtrack is created by Tetsuya Mizuguchi from his own band “Genki Rockets” Tetsuya has said there will be DJs and remixers joining as well. You can currently hear two of the game’s music on Ubisoft’s Soundcloud page.

E3 2010: Wireless Interference affects Zelda Skyward Sword
It was kind of embarrassing but there was some wireless interference during the gameplay for The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword.
Miyamoto reinforces that Link is no longer Left Handed.
Pressing the A button you can run around on the field. There is a small circular dash timer that depletes the longer you run. You can roll around on the ground by shaking the nunchuk.
If you want to swing your sword, you pretty much swing the Wii Motion plus. But you see, it’s not as simple as that. Depending on which direction you swing the sword, Link swings it the same way. For example, Miyamoto demonstrated an attack against a Deku Baba, a plant enemy who’s mouth is either vertical or horizontal. If the mouth is horizontal you must swing the Wii Remote horizontally, if the mouth is vertical, you swing the Wii Remote vertically. The swinging isn’t as precise as how the Playstation Move was demonstrated, it seemed slightly delayed.
You can also charge your sword by holding your Wii Remote up in the air for a while. Then by swinging it down you release sword beams. If you swing both your nunchuk and your Wii Remote at the same direction, you can unleash a spin attack.
To hold the shield, you raise your nunchuk. The shield can be used to deflect oncoming attacks by thrusting the nunchuck forward. The B button opens the the item menu, and you point the Wii Remote to choose which item you want. Unlike previous Zelda games, the healing potion does not freeze time.
Miyamoto showed off other weapons, including the Slingshot, which you can aim using the Wii Remote and press A to shoot. You don’t actually have to point at the screen, the WiiMotion Plus detects your movement. Bombs can be thrown by raising the Wii Remote and flicking it forward. Additionally you can roll the bombs on the ground by mimicking throwing a bowling ball.
For the Bow you hold down C to ready the bow then simultaneously pull back on the nunchuck to imitate pulling back of a bow and arrow. Releasing the C button shoots the arrow. The whip was another weapon which you shake Wii Remote forward to unleash. Miyamoto revealed The Beetle which you can control by tilting the Wii Remote in any direction to control’s it’s flight path. The beetle can also pick up items for you.
The Wii Remote failure
However due to some interference, the Bow demonstration went awry. The Wii was unable to detect the direction to aim the arrow. Link was spinning around in first person aiming directly at the sky and was pretty much confused. We noticed though the Wii was able to detect the nunchuck directional movement clearly, however the Wii Remote’s aiming was very erratic. Miyamoto stayed cool, and the audience remained calm. Though we are left to wonder, if this demonstration of the Wii Motion Plus failure affects public opinion on the Wii console as a whole.

A Playstation Move Champions Bundle that comes with the Eye Camera, Sports Champions, and a Playstation Move controller for $99.99.
Sony’s E3 conference showed off some pretty cool ideas to blow away the Wiimote. The main difference between the Wii and Playstation Move is how it can detect space.
You see Playstation Move has 3 sensors. In addition, the ball on top of it will be tracked by the Eye Camera. This will allow the Playstation Move to be used as an object you can control in space.
Remember all those Wii commercials of players swinging the Wiimotes around as if the action, then later we found out all you had to do was flick the wrist. Well Playstation Move captures the essence of those commercials in real time. As you can see above, you must fully swing the Playstation Move controller like a real golf club in order to hit the ball. This motion has been described as “1 to 1 movement” so that your physical movement reflects the outcome.
The Playstation Eye, a little camera near the TV, is what’s actually tracking your swing. It checks the position of the ball on top of the Playstation Move.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 will be updated to utilize the Playstation Move this fall.
Another game that was demonstrated utilizing the Playstation Move. This game sort of felt similar to the Wii Motion Plus demonstration of Zelda. In sorcery you control a wand which you must swing in real time like a real wizard.
We saw that by putting your Move controller up to your mouth as if you were drinking it, your wizard will do the same. The wizard drank a potion and turned himself into a frog.
Sorcery For Playstation Move
We also saw another attack that focuses on Area of Effect. In order to perform this attack you must charge the wand by holding your move controller in the air then quickly lowering it to the floor.
Heroes on the Move starring Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, and Sly Cooper
Playstation Move will be specially compatible with games like Killzone 3, inFamous 2, SOCOM 4, Gran Turismo 5, Time Crisis Razing Storm, NBA 2k11, Singstar +Dance, echocrome ii, and eyePet.
Not only will there be games made for the Playstation Move, older games shall be updated to utilize it’s features. Of note, Heavy Rain, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, and Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition will all receive updates!

E3 2010: Killzone 3, Crysis 2 and more in 3D (Glasses Required)
Killzone 3 was made natively for 3D glasses in mind.
Today Sony announced that it will be releasing content that will be compatible with 3D television sets. The major game announced so far is Killzone 3. Viewers in the E3 Audience all put on 3D glasses to enjoy the view.
Other games in the 3D lineup include Superstardust, Pain, and Motorstorm Pacific Rift, Gran Turismo 5, Mortal Kombat, Shaun White Skateboarding, Crysis 2, Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Tron Evolution, and NBA 2k11.
Unfortunately a picture isn’t a 1000 words as you’ll need 3D glasses to actually experience this 3D effect. Who knows, maybe one day we can view 3D on tv sets without glasses as Nintendo 3DS has done.
Killzone 3 will be available February 2011 and will be fully compatible with Playstation Move at launch.

New Nintendo 3DS Details; Requires No 3D Glasses, Takes 3D pictures.
Today at E3, Nintendo revealed the highly anticipated Nintendo 3DS . It features eye popping 3D graphics that flow outside of the screen. Several features of the handheld was announced. Here’s a list of the major features.

Let’s talk a little bit more about the automatic communication. The Nintendo 3DS can transfer and receive data automatically from Wifi and other 3DS handhelds in the area. Even if each person were playing a different game, data will still be transferred. Let’s say you’re playing Saint’s Row and a friend is playing Metal Gear Solid and considering you both own each game. The ranking data of Saint’s Row would be transferred to your friend’s 3DS without interrupting his Metal Gear Solid game. When your friend starts up their own Saint’s Row, they’ll see your data!
Automatic Data includes downloading new stages, game rankings, new quests, ghost data, all with no monthly fee.

E3 2010: Mizuguchi’s Child of Eden, is it Rez 2?
Testuya Mizuguchi plays Child of Eden
At Ubisoft’s keynote, a magical game came forth. A game with no visual interface, no icons, no guns, nothing. Just a circle scrolling about in a colorful technical world of blocks and bits. Tetsuya Mizuguchi revealed his latest project, Child of Eden! It’s pretty hard to describe, though after seeing a demonstration of it, I think I got the gist of it.
Using Xbox 360 Kinect, Mizuguchi controls Child of Eden without any controllers.
By placing your hand in front of Xbox Kinect, you play as a round cursor that attacks various shapes and objects on the screen by hovering over them. Similar to Rez, it appears you can target multiple enemies with your “missiles,” and unleash them all at the same time by quickly flicking the hand.
Whereas in Rez you move through a fixed building and headed through corridors, Child of Eden has an evolving atmosphere of blocks that change the shape of the environment. Not only that, we saw an area that looked like earth, and a skyscraper of blocks reaching up towards the player. The game feels as if your flying through space while enjoying the funky techno music and visuals.
Child of Eden looks to be the Rez of our generation, and I’m pleased! Hopefully more details will emerge about it in the coming days!

E3 2010 Microsoft Kinect: Ubisoft’s Your Shape: Fitness Evolved
Your Shape Fitness Evolved appears to be the “WiiFit” of Xbox360. Catering to the casual, female audience, the game allows one to cardio, yoga, taichi, and fun activities. The game “calibrates” your body in real time to match to your skeletal movements. After the calibration, the player will use the space around them to select menus which snap within your personal space. The screenshot above also shows off her height and dimensions.
Your Shape Fitness Evolved lets you burn calories in a virtual gym.
Your fitness instructor will walk you through exercises and will inform you to perform the correct body positioning. If you are out of sync to a cardio rhythm, the game informs you an sends you encouragement. Your Shape Fitness Evolved allows users to send and receive challenges and compare results from your friends online through xbox live, twitter and facebook.
The game also features high impact workouts where you can play several fitness games. The premise is to trick gamers into doing workouts while burning calories while they are too busy having fun! At the Ubisoft conference they demonstrated Kick Boxing. Several boxes will appear next to your character as you kick and punch the boxes out of the way. After your workout you can cool down in a mode known as “Taichi Travel.”

E3 2010 Xbox Kinect: Harmonix Dance Central; Dance to Lady Gaga!
Like a full body DDR, Harmonix Dance Central has players using their full body to dance along with the music by following the on screen commands. This game reminds me of this very old PBS special about the future of videogames. It was made a long time ago around the height of the Playstation 2. In that game, players had to do poses with their entire body. They used a peripheral sort of similar to Xbox Kinect, except that it used your shadow to detect if you were actually attempting the pose. But I digress….
The player will perform choreography within a 4 beat span. For every measure a dance move will show up; for example we noted the placard for “Benjo” and within that 4 beat span, the player must perform a sort of strumming a guitar action. If you performed well expect to see a “Nice” or “Flawless!”
White Boy think he can dance!
The game features simple and complex routines so in the end you could be your very own Madonna Backup Dancer! The game will feature a soundtrack of popular hits from Lady Gaga, No Doubt, Beastie Boys and more…

E3 2010: Microsoft Kinect, Video Kinect and Games, and New Interface!
Microsoft Xbox Kinect release date is November 4, 2010, with 15 Launch titles!
At this year’s E3, Microsoft finally showed off the features for Kinect. Trying to revolutionize controller free gameplay and voice command will allow the Kinect to be one of the coolest add-ons for this holiday season.
They first show off a brand new Xbox interface exclusively for the Kinect. To sign in, Ron demonstrates that by “waving hi” the Xbox will sign you in. Kinect automatically recognizes his gamertag and places him within the regular Xbox menu. If he waves again, the interface changes and allows him to navigate menus without a controller.
Ron shows off that just by saying “Zune”, the Zune menu pops up. He points his arm over Alice in Wonderland’s icon and the video automatically plays. If he holds his arm up, he can control the movie with the seek bar.
By saying “Xbox Stop” the Xbox automatically stops the movie. Also you can switch to other Xbox features on the fly, like for example by saying, “Xbox Music,” the Zune interface opens up and plays your favorite music automatically.
Video Kinect allows users to chat with friends without a headset. By waving your hand over the Video Kinect menu you can chat to her friends on Xbox Live and Windows Live Messenger.
Video Kinect allows users to watch videos at the same time.
Video Kinect can also track your movements and pan the camera to capture you. With speech recognition, just by saying, “Xbox End Chat,” the Video Kinect menu closes.
Kinectimals allows you to interact with animals by waving your arms and petting them. The game detects your presence, if you’re not there, your pet searches for you on the screen. With speech recognition you can tell them to get items for you. In the demonstration a little girl told her pet to get a jump rope. The pet runs off and fetches the rope for her. The girl is then seen swinging her arms in a circular motion as the pet jumps in sync.
Kinect Sports is like a WiiSports with a huge graphical upgrade. They demonstrate that by waving your arms, you can control a sport’s crowd cheer and fireworks. A game of Track and Field was demonstrated, by running in place physically, your character runs along the track. The game detects in real time when you physically jump, so that your character can jump over hurdles.
In the trailer they show off other sports like Javelin, Bowling, Soccer, Ping Pong, and more!
Kinect Joy Ride has players using an invisible steering wheel to drive! They demonstrated how you can place your hands in front of your body, as Kinect will detect if you are turning your steering wheel left or right. The game also has a stunts feature where by copying the movements on screen, your car may flip or roll over.
In Kinect Adventures! Players use their entire body to play. The mini game “Reflex” was demonstrated. By physically crouching, your character ducks in real time. If you shift your body off to the side, your character dodges an obstacle as well. The game allows anyone to join in on the fly. Kinect Adventures! will create a split screen for players to compete against each other. It appears the point of the game is to collect as much coins as possible. There are also times when a floating camera will take pictures of you and display them on Facebook.
Kinect Adventures! can upload your antics onto Facebook!
They also show off another minigame known as “River Rush”, a game where players are river rafting in a tube. By tilting your body in a direction, the tube changes directions to avoid obstacles. If you jump, the tube can hop up onto the air and reach the clouds above!

Bebo Save likely? AOL finds potential buyers.
Bebo 2010
We’ve been following news stories this past month about the Bebo situation. Previously AOL decided it needed to cut costs by dismantling Bebo or selling it. Tim Armstrong revealed that there were potential parties interested in buying Bebo. The exact companies who are purchasing Bebo has not been revealed at this time. Though we do know of one individual who will not purchase Bebo.
- Parties not interested in purchasing Bebo
- Michael Birch
Michael Birch founder of Bebo, in a previous interview with Telegraph, states:
“Most social networks have gone into gaming and I think somebody will buy Bebo from AOL as it still has still has a lot of unique users a month and that’s valuable”
He believes AOL will not get the original price of $850 million when they bought the site from him, but at least they can cover part of their losses. He also believes the demise of Bebo, as well as other popular websites can occur when large companies buy a product in which they do not understand.
An insider explained to Telegraph that a core reason behind the fall of Bebo was how AOL did not listen to the feedback of it’s users and focused towards implementing AIM/AOL features, instead of fixing bugs. We’ve covered a few of those bugs in the previous blog posts of last year, however, those were mainly focused on AOL/AIM integration to Bebo, and not the other way around.
Michael Birch believes Zynga would be a great purchaser of Bebo. Zynga currently focuses mainly on games, particularly social games like Farmville.
[via telegraph + buisnessweek]
With the initial news of a possible Bebo shut down, users created their own petitions, groups, and websites dedicated to Save Bebo. You can read our initial observation here.
