Low Emitting Fuel Efficient Parking Space Design

Today I was walking around and spotted some priority parking spaces for Hybrid and Electric cars only. Unlike the rarely seen parking signs, these are actually fitted with a green leaf logo and green “white lines” on the tarmac where cars can park. So far this is the first time I’ve seen parking spaces like this in New Jersey.

The parking spaces were close but not the closest to an entrance. In this image below, the parking spaces are closer to the Emergency Room, but farther away from a main entrance. Some regular and handicapped parking spaces were in priority areas. I would guess these spaces are just for convenience when the parking lots get full. I wonder what would happen if a non fuel efficient car parks there.
