Removing your Full Name from AIM
Aim 7.3 beta which somehow became a mandatory update, added the option for users to add their full name to their screen name. The purpose behind it was for others to search for your screen name by just entering your name.
Although they could still find you by submitting their email contacts. A friend of mine noted how there was not a clear way of removing your full name if you opted into it for fun.
Taking off your Name from AIM
- Sign into AIM Full Name
- Uncheck Allow people to see my full name and find me in search results
- Click on First Name and Delete the entire text field
- Click on Last Name and Delete the entire text field
- Click Submit
If it worked properly it should say
“Your full name has been cleared. Thanks for updating your info on AIM!
To change your name, click here. “
Keep in mind the full name option does not apply to those who have manually added your real name as a nickname. Although, only they will see the name they typed.
If you have used the Plaxo service, you will have to remove your full name from there. Your name shows up to those whom you connected with.
You must clear both the First Name and Last Name text boxes before you press submit.

My nickname wont delete, it still shoes my nickname.. i want to delete it so my buddies can only see my screen name
thank you… i have no idea how it got my real name to begin with, I only found out through noticing it on someone’s phone IM.
I only use an outdated AIM client from 2004 and i never in a million years would’ve given it permission to tie my real name to it, let alone display it. I used the account for chatting with people from forums over the years.

I had that happen at first too, when I tried to clear the name it retained my full name. I had to just enter jibberish (in my case, just a period for first and last name) before it would save it.
this doesn’t work. after i delete my first and last name and hit submit, it still keeps my name. Is there a way to make sure that only i can see my full name using aim and aol?
Did you try what I mentioned in the comment posted above yours?
I don’t know if there’s a way to make it so only you can see it, but as long as it’s gone publicly is my main concern.

I really dislike how they make users dig for the option to remove it to the point we have to come here.
