A Developing Story… updated 6/3/09

Just when you thought it was safe to go back outside, another Sims 3 leak is released. This time another group claims their leak is now the final retail version that is expected to ship on June 2nd. News of this leak was sent on May 25th, after several days of performance and testing issues discovered by members of various forums and blogs we can now project that there are no noticeable changes between the two leaks.

We still can not say whether or not this leak is the final version until June 2nd. There will be a new post after I purchase of the game where we will compare reports made over the past two weeks on issues that have been fixed or not. Unless there is any other major news story released, the next Sims 3 blog post will be the last discussion over the authenticity of the two leaks.

Story Progression Fixed in Retail ?

On June 3rd: There are complaints at the official board about story progression. It appears it does not deactivate if you uncheck the feature. I guess for those who thought the second leak was the final version, you can officially say “I told you so!”

The First Leak’s Demise

Will EA step up their game plan with this new leak?

As reported by SimPrograms, a SnootySims member found a link to the first patch to be released officially by EA. According to the story, the first leak’s version number is  1.0.615.00107. The patch to be delivered by EA will upgrade the retail version, 1.0.631.00002 to 1.0.632.00002. This was to put an end of all forum debates on whether or not the first leak was final.

Still as addressed in the previous article, there are doubts over whether EA is telling the truth. The version numbers aren’t so incredibly far from each other either making it sound as if there were only minor bug fixes between each build.

The Second Leak Steps Up

According to the info file contained within the second leak, this version is slated to be 1.0.631.00002. This leak also appears to be a DVD copy of the game and does not include SecuRom.

The second group is boasting how their leak is the “real deal”. They’ve made sure to post evidence of this by comparing the version numbers and dates of files in both leaks. They have included a link to EA’s patch update file to explain how the first leak cannot be patched since EA will only update version 1.0.631.x to 1.0.632.x.  So it seems there’s a little competition going on here.

Differences between 1.0.615.x and 1.0.631.x ?

This week, several players from various forums and blogs described their experience between the two games. Players reported no gameplay differences between both versions. They found no additional items, hairstyles, or objects. Some gamers experienced minor bug fixes between each leak, but there were conflicting reports and we can not confirm them at this time.

The inability to deactivate Story Progression was a major bug in the first leak. Players reported this bug was still not fixed in the second leak.

The only major difference players noted between each leak were the version numbers and dates of files. The second leak had files 7 days in advance from the previous leak.

EA encourages pirates to purchase the full game

unauthorized

Pirated “615″ Posted by a forum member on Gamespot,
the thread was later deleted.

Thursday May 27th: EA sent a message through the game launcher:

You are playing a non-final, unauthorized copy of The Sims 3.

Purchasing and registering an official copy of The Sims 3 will entitle you to benefits including access to an entirely new game town called Riverview, 1000 SimPoints which can redeemed for game objects in The Sims 3 store, and access to The Sims 3 Exchange.

It was very interesting to see EA’s response to the piracy matter. There is something very significant with this message. Note that the version number says 1.0.615.x. Put your thinking caps on!

Real Retail Version “631″ Posted by SnootySims Forum Member

The version number for the retail version with no patches installed is version 1.0.631.x. The last four digits refer to the region it came from and if it is a digital download. There is something interesting here though. Compare the three screenshots.

Unlike the first screenshot of version 1.0.615.00107. The second leak does not show the “non-final, unauthorized” message.

The Sims 3 Store Money Pinch!

EA officially released The Sims 3 store prices and it has left several consumers upset, concerned, or refusing to buy anything due to the cost of items. An estimate to purchase all store items cost over $250, thats way over the retail price of $49.95.

  • I was thinking of downloading the second leak to suffice my Sims addiction for the one week but now that i know the bug is even present in the retail game, I might as well wait for the game to get a patch and then buy it. Who knows, EA could go silent and decide to not fix anything.

I also heard that EA has versions 1.0.615.x and 1.0.631.x on the shelves. People from Gamespot had been complaining about getting a pre-final version of the game. Is this true? I’m pretty scared i might get the 1.0.615.x version. EA only patches versions 1.0.631.x as you’ve said. So if i get the older one, i’m screwed?!!!

  • Looks like Story Progression is now an OFFICIAL BUG STAMPED WITH OFFICIAL EA APPROVAL

Hi All – I’ve seen many conversations popping up about our game feature called Story Progression and the fact that the option to turn it off doesn’t work. We’ve been investigating this and have found that the toggle is not doing what it was intended to do. We are working to address this asap but in the meantime there is a workaround for PCs.

    For PC:
    1) Find your game executable. It should be here: C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin
    2) Create a shortcut on your desktop to the TS3.exe.
    3) Right-Click on the shortcut and choose “Properties”
    4) In the top line “Target:” go to the end of the line and add this tag –disablestoryprogression
    5) From this point on you will need to run your game from this shortcut and NOT through your launcher.

There isn’t a work around for Mac at this time.

I realize this is a certainly not ideal but it will address the issue while we are working on a real fix.

I also want to mention that there are a few events that can still occur even if story progression is completely off.
    - Any pre-made pregnant Sims will still have their babies.
    - If Aging is on, Sims will still die.
    - As YOUR Sims get new jobs, other Sims in the neighborhood may have their careers reassigned to become your boss or co-workers. “

  • Um, I don’t mind not having music sometimes, but I do mind not having music all the time.

I’ve been investigating this bug. I’ve found nothing much. Maybe people are having too much fun to notice the music is gone?

Here’s the website to the bug: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/thesims3/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-49815029&pid=936498

  • I have always enjoyed playing the Sims, and I was so excited when I first heard that Sims 3 would be coming out. When they pushed the date to June I thought I’d die from misery lol-yes an exaggeration- but come June the economy was so rotten I’d switched jobs twice and ended up at a pet place making 6 bucks an hour and my husband was laid off. There went all my hopes of getting Sims 3 cuz sorry but EA’s not gonna pay my bills for me. Now I see how far they are going to make a hot dime and I’m disappointed. I’m not the only one who has decided EA is ripping us off..none of my friends are buying it OR falling for that Exchange bull. It’s sad that a game and a company(you could say) I used to wish I could actually work for/with is now in my eyes a douche.

  • @Carl –
This music bug is likely caused by too many simultaneously playing audio tracks, most of which the player doesn’t hear though. You could try to find a constant sound source in the world (it could be a radio playing constantly on somebody’s balcony) and turn it off ‘making room’ for your radio and map/buy/build mode audio.

  • can someone give me the link to the leaked version?

  • Sims 3 Patch is now out, new blog post detailing the reaction from players sometime soon.

  • so the speed on the first leak cannot be fixed at all unless i upgrade to ver 1.0.631.x?

  • Well it’s kind of conflicting. We just didn’t find anything we could clearly agree upon between bugs of the first leak and the second leak/retail. If you get 1.0.631 then you can patch it officially.

  • I have version 1.0.631, but I have not updated the patch recently as I had to reinstall my game from downloading the latest release patch that came out on the 28th of July. Yet it gives alot less to worry about after installing it… but not when the patch gives me MORE troubles when it doesn’t make anything better in the first place! As I play my game and skip the beginning video as I start it up, as soon as it reaches to the front screen where the main game loads, it turns off immediately! It doesn’t even take much of an effort to turn off, it just turns off then and there and takes me back to my desktop. I’m afraid to further retry to install the patch as my game works properly now, but now that I don’t have the second patch I have to wait impatiently for minutes for my sims to sleep again. This game is bizarre and half the people who has downloaded this patch has complained to the site that their games will turn off from 15-30 minutes. Does EA even give a hell damn? They haven’t even tried fixing this, I think they’re busy making profitable items on their store rather than being loyal to its customers.

  • Hm I’m in the middle of writing the patch’s blog article but thanks for the heads up. I’ll check out some more threads to see what people are having issues with. I installed the patch (i never had any mods, I’ve heard of bugs with that and the patch). So now I’m going to see how the game runs with it. :3

  • I started getting that message about it being the non-final game not that longa go. I downloaded one of the original leaks, should I be scared that EA might come after me if they know I have a pirated version? :/ I’ve already downloaded cc and made sims.. I really don’t wanna have to uninstall. :(

  • No, EA does not seem to be going after pirates. With the 1st leak version you will not be able to patch the game. With the second leaked version you can patch the game as long as you did not use the leaked patch that was included with the razor release.

If you have the retail version and you are seeing that message you have to contact EA support.

  • @the gu who asked for the link…Google it you lazy prick

@EA i hope you burn in hell for this you fucking Assholes
You suck from this point on i am going to Fire my lazzzorz at EAs website and Download everything illegally so fuck you you fucking Cunts!!!

@people who actually Purchase this crap form them

    Dont be dumb.

  • All the store items and the Riverview addon is fully compatible and working with the first leaked version

      • You can try the torrent from razor1911 – ts3crnr1911 – I had the link but try – The_Sims_3_-_Razor1911_Crackfix.4913381.TPB.zip – I am hoping that this will fix up the problem of this earlier Sims 3 version. I got it myself and will try it out today and will report back to you all.

But you will need version 1.0.631.00107 and higher to be able add on the Adventure expansion as well. I hope this helps.
