Today the next generation of the popular instant messenger platform released with a brand new version called Aim 7. It’s an early beta that will showcase some new features.

It seems the message they are focusing on this time is to keep the program light on resources. The last time this was done was for AIM Lite. Redesign appears to pay some homage to Yahoo and Facebook.
We’ll have an indepth of review of this new beta at another time. Here are some of the new features you can expect with Aim 7 beta.
- New Look
- Larger Buddy Icons
- Built in Buddy Icon Maker
- Larger status entry screen
- New Advertisement locations

Aim 7.0 Releases With Larger Buddy Icons
The smaller buddy icons that would show up in the buddy list are gone. I have a lot of buddies and now it takes a while to scroll down if I have icon view enabled.
The theme is really nice and clean, but there’s no option to change the look or color which is disappointing.
Click Menu > View > Show Buddy Icons and the buddy icons will show up on your buddy list.
Those icons are large and create gaps between the names on the buddy list. That’s what my point was.
So does it support animated GIFs or not?
I think there’s a bug with this. I have to check.
neh the cropper nerfs any animation in the images, just something that happens when any animated icon gets cropped. sorry
