The Rising Son on Adult Swim Is About…
Jesus! That’s right, it’s some sort of live action sitcom or maybe dramedy about Jesus. The show premiered last night, or should I say this morning at 5 am. I stayed up to watch this thinking it was an anime, and I’m pretty disappointed.

The show starts off with Joseph (it sounded like Judd, I was too tired to pay attention) and Mary. Mary’s last name is censored out in the opening and ending credits. Mary wants Joseph to tell Jesus who is true father really is. Joseph is reluctant to do so and basically lies to Jesus.
Joseph wants Jesus to work in his business of carpentry making furnishings for people’s homes. Joseph convinces Jesus that his true destiny is to become the messiah of home furnishings.
Jesus appears on the show in a brand new form. He’s not the extremely skinny Jesus like on South Park, nor is he muscular, he’s chubby! He looks very much like a slacker, but with white robes.
Mary Magdalene appears on the show as a conjoined twin. Both Mary & Magedleline believe they would become the next Messiah.
There is a podium where anyone can stand on and preach what they believe in. If the audience boos them, they get stoned. A black woman first stepped up and preached how we should be nice to one another and she gets booed. Mary & Magdalene walk up to the podium to preach about reflexology, how the soles of your feet can tell your life’s history.
Are you serious?
Yes this show is pretty weird, I can see why they put it on at 5am. I think the funniest line in the first episode is when Joseph says to Jesus something along the lines of, “Of course your the Messiah, everyone around the world will want to know about your select comfort and low prices!”
The preview for the next episode actually looked more interesting than the show itself.

It’s a horrible show it makes me wonder why they didn’t bother to give Korgoth of Barbaria a chance but they give these low budget shows a whole season.
You need to watch things fully awake before you write a blog about them. You have the events of the show all out of order and I had to rewatch the show to try and translate which line was your favorite line. It was one of the last lines of the episode (you make it sound like it is one of the first).
The line is “Your going to save the world, hundreds, perhaps thousands with quality furnishings.” At this point Jesus was going to follow Mary and Magdelaine as the messiah. Yes the show is weird, but it is damn funny. Next time DVR it instead of staying awake till 5:30 in the morning. Anybody that can’t tell the difference between the 20-something Jude and the 40-something balding Joseph needs to stop writing blogs on things he can’t remember. Too tired to remember but able to write a blog about it. Jesus! is right. sheesh.
As for a whole season, do some research too. There were only four episodes of Rising Son made so far. It’s a breath of fresh air, makes fun of soap operas and religion at the same time, what’s not to like?
Its just a run down of what happened in the show. I don’t really care if it has 4 episodes, it’s on at 5 AM at a dead time zone hardly anyone will want to watch. They’re killing the show before giving it a chance. Its going to sink regardless.
The comedy was in there. You just had to had to take a little look here and there. For example, Judas’s previous work experience, or the name of the store (Intelligent Design). It could have been presented better…
Also, I think the show knows it sucks. It’s produced by “Easily Avoidable Entertainment.”
I’ve been reading message boards, and the hate this show generates is pretty high. I’m not really sure if I should give this show another chance. Premiering it on the internet might have been a better choice.

It’s funny as Hell, pardon the pun. Making fun of Soaps and religion. It’s not low budget, shot at Turner Studios in Atlanta, just edited and cut to look like it is, a spoof in Adult Swim style.
Well, it has its “chuckle factor”, and it is not an ENDLESS REPEAT (and they wonder why the total Adult Swim ratings are going down, even with now having a West Coast Feed added to their original East Coast Feed), or garbage like “Tim and Eric” (Go back to Jefferton already, the “live action” may be better for the “Cartoon Network” hours). I do agree that this little bit of “Sacrelidge on Sunday morning”, is designed as a “33 AD Soap Opera in a 1950’s style, using 2009 technology”, will it last past 4 episodes? I do not know. I have a friend that is addicted to soap operas, and I share it with them, and they get a chuckle out of it (even knowing how much I hate soap operas, it is on the DVR each Sunday before the local TV Mass is recorded)… just to show my friend how much I HATE SOAPS and how this makes the perfect mockumentory of one. Just having anything NEW on Adult Swim keeps me from having it on for something more than “background noise” while I have insomnia and am deleting SPAM in my inbox in the wee hours of the morning.

I got to watch part of the third episode but it became “background noise” at the end.
I thought it was an awesome show! The religious sentiments alone is enough to make Christians riot in the street! So awesome!

one of the dumbest things I ever watched it makes year one look interesting. Its bad attempt at social commentary (intelligent design) got at most a chuckle out of me.
I was about ready to give up on this show until I saw the kitten part. It’s still pretty bad but I can’t help like it despite that. But what’s the deal with the censoring names in the credits?

It’s Adult Swim’s morning Sunday Christian programming. That in itself is humorous.
It’s not the best acted show but some of the basic plots are in theirselves funny. God telling Mary he wants a threesome and for Mary to surprise Him. Not humorous? I guess being an atheist and disliking Christianity (like I do) helps…
God, please strike down whoever thought this show would be entertaining.
I can handle sacrilegious humor, but this crap isn’t funny or even “chuckle-worthy”.
It’s almost as if the creators of the show purposely tried to make a show knowingly-unfunny to the point where you’d have to laugh at the show’s existence and not any line given by any of the cast.
God, please bring back Karate Kommandos or Saved By the Bell for this time-slot.
It’s no worse than talentless Tim and Eric and their crap pants. I’d take this over Tim n Eric banality anyday.
i found it hilarious. i can see why many people wouldnt like it, but every show on adultswim is not meant for most people. most people dont like funny concepts, and making fun of religion is a hardcore taboo. is the show “good”.. no. but its still great, and in a really dumb way, its intelligent. then again ive had people telling me my entire life monty python sucks, and they are all wrong.. life of brian is more historically accurate than the passion, and it was meant to be funny, not funny by accident.. but back on point, rising son is funny, and worth a watch, just dont expect an award winning show.
and yes.. id rather have this than tim and eric any day
i just realized something else.. of course most of you will hate this show, you were probably hoping this was some anime dubbed in horrible english voices (i like anime and all.. but i like subs..), your saturday is tainted, you may even cry at the brak show.. which is my main reason to even turn on [as] on saturday
The BEST things created by the AS locals would be Sealab 2021, ATHF, Perfect Hair Forever, The Brak Show, and Birdman Attourney at Law. The Best things SHOWN on Adult swim are the Anime offerings that only play once a week in the insomnia hours. This, and other live action/semi-live action shows don’t even come close. On the Cartoon Network side, TOONAMI was their best…
BTW, I too like subs but most dubs are OK. Ideally, I’ll learn Japanese and won’t need either one.
CN/AS have lost their way, parting with the specialized genre that made this one of the only channels I used to watch. This is similar to Sci-Fi network hosting ECW wrestling, WTF is up with that?
I’ll give The Rising Son this much credit – it beats anything from Tim & Eric. I’ll leave it on if I’m awake for it, but T&E? In their time slot, I’m learning to bump the controller over to Kim Possible (Disney).
@ ibcolder: LOL I did that too. Whenever Adult Swim aired a bleh show in the wee hours of the morning I’d switch to Kim Possible. That’s pretty sad. My cable company just started airing boomerang (man how slow are they..) So now I find myself watching Penelope Pitstop.

see ; instead of this BS , they should ` ve kept Snake ‘N Bacon ` s Cartoon Cabaret . iLoved that show . this one was just weird ; it was just a regular comedy – drama but with biblical characters . && it ` s BORING !!
