AOL Profiles replaced by Bebo and Users Hate it!
So a few weeks ago at the end of February, AIM Profiles became Bebo. The new profile system allows more control over your profile allowing you to add videos, music, and text, in a much easier fashion than AIM Profiles. However, dedicated AIM Profiles users were really ticked off with what seemed like a sudden change over to the Bebo profiles. Some users pointed out how they were not notified about this change and had no idea it was about to occur. Before we continue on, I want to address this issue first.
Did AOL notify users that AIM Profiles would switch to Bebo?
Yes, in fact, there was a yellow bar at the top of every profile giving you a preview for what the new profile system would look like. There was really no way of avoiding that announcement if you used AIM profiles last year. I’ve also covered this in previous entry four months ago that you can read here in case you need proof.
As it happens whenever AOL changes something, most users get disgruntled, they assemble their pitch forks and flames, they walk up to AOL’s headquaters and raise hell! The same thing pretty much happened when AOL changed “AOL Profiles” over to the same sytem AIM profiles used, but that’s another story.
Some have started their own petitions gaining over 3000 signatures about this event. I totally agree, the Bebo profiles are not user friendly for AOL users. Settings are pretty much scattered all over the place and there isn’t one central area for everything you need. Some users describe their experience with it as frustrating, confusing, and a piece of garbage. AOL will have to modify the Bebo setup to appeal to the AOL side. As for those who already exist on Bebo, they are quite used to it and understand how it works.
But I’m here to help. The likeliness of AIM Profiles coming back is slim, so we just have to make due with what we have. The next post will feature a guide to some of the confusing issues with Bebo. We’ll have a little walkthrough where you can ask questions and I’ll get back to you as I find out.

This sucks!! I cant read profiles anymore????? I should dump aol
The problem is that Bebo places everyone’s profiles as private until they change their settings to public. I can’t say for sure if its a good or bad idea but it does make it very annoying for chatters.
What am I going to do without profiles???
not a good thing this profile change now we dont know who we are chatting with on aol any more give us back out profiles on aol
I believe AOL did its base an injustice by not letting them know this change to BEBO was taking place… with all other AOL changes there was email notification… I for one, do not visit my profile when I come online therefore if there was something on the profile – it was not noted by myself… The other problem seems to be the 24 hr turnaround time in email notifications of issues. It takes more than 24 hrs – close to one week thus far… BEBO has changed the AOL/AIM screen names of many people by adding numbers, including myself and I cannot change it back…and with all profiles set to private it makes it difficult if you want to add this person as an online friend. BEBO should allow us to set the profiles to private… I get invites and I have to send an email to see who the person is before accepting as I chat with them in rooms and do not know them by these new screen names or their real names, go figure! Also I no longer can use my webcam when I chat… but if I go and sign in on AOL – I can use it… under the old AIM – I could use it…
PPL GIVE BEBO A CHANCE AOL PROFILES LOOK LIKE TRASH COMPARED TO BEBO,,,IF YOU CAN READ THEN YOU CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO USE IT,,,,I LEARNED IN 1 DAY,,,,ITS ALOT OF FUN BESIDES LEAVING JUST COMMENTS TO FRIENDS,,,,IF ITS PRIVATE,,,WELL GO TO SETTING AND CHANGE IT,,,,SAD TO CANCEL AOL OVER A PROFILE LOL WOW,,,,,
i do not have an aim profile or an aol profile and yet, still, bebo friends has shown up on my buddy list and yes, like others here, it will not be deleted. this is shameful.
If you have an AIM/AOL screen name you automatically have a profile on Bebo, whether you use it or not. Even before we switched to Bebo, you automatically had an aim profile.
I can’t upload my pics. Is anyone else having this problem?
heyy
I am so sick of all the stupid changes on AOL. I am ready to switch to yahoo or something else, AOL sucks so bad since they started all these damn changes. I am definitely dumping AOL
User friendly is KEY. And Bebo isn’t. Think of a 3rd grader, who plays and plays until they figuire it out (and they do)…. we adults just don’t have that kinda time!
I feel this was a corporate decision, for WHATEVER reason, and users concerns weren’t considered.
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” ~
A disgruntled AOL/AIM user
I cant change my aim icon pic for the chats. its retarded
BEBO SUCKS!!
I DONT LIKE ANYTHING ABOUT BEBO.I CANT UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT OF IT. IT IS ALL OVER THE PLACE. AND SO RIGID AND YOU JUST CANT HAVE ANY INDIVIDUALITY ON BEBO. HONESTLY, I FEEL LIKE I AM IN KINDERGARDEN WHEN I GO THERE GET SICK TO MY STOMACH AND HAVE TO CLICK OFF.
WHY DO YOU (BEBO) GIVE US 3-4 SUGGESTIONS AND FORMATS AND EXPECT US TO USE IT OR LIKE IT?? MY INDIVUALITY FEELS STIFFLED THERE. IVE LOST ALL MY FRIENDS (CANT EVER FIND THEM).IM SORRY io NOW HAVE DECIDED TO EXPLORE THE INTERNET INSTEAD OF USING BEBO.GODD LUCK BUT IMNOT GOING TO BE TREATED LIKE I AM 12 YEARS OLD AND NEED THIS KIND OF GUIDANCE..LIKE IM A CHILD.
WELL I WILL SAY IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.
it is total crap…….i like bebo,i have a separate bebo profile already, but now my aol profile is gone, and everything is mish mosh.
and as for the yellow bar thing…….i never saw it,it wasnt big enough to catch my attention…..i just got surprised with bs one day.
plus with all the internet perves around, ide rather check sumones profile befor friending them,or talking to them……….this was a terrible move by aol……the aim thing didnt bother me,the bebo thing is crapola.
I do not like all these changes nor do I like Bebo. If i wanted face book or myspace I would have gone there. There was no need for all this , if it isnt broke aol don’t fix it or at least give people the choice. AFTER ALL we are the ones paying for this.
BEBO SUCKS
WHERE IS MY AOL PROFILE
BEBO which I TRIED today sent me THREATENING email saying I VIOLATED THEIR TERMS and my account was in jeopardy because I posted a picture of a BABY, which reminded me of my daughter saying it was inappropriate for children?
I posted 7 flowers and I guess they were okay.
A BABY? What are there terms, and NO ONE will write back to me.
My profile they would not even let me UPDATE or edit, it’s old and I can’t even delete it.
IT TRULY SUCKS and I did not see the WARNING or whatever because I had not looked at my own profile. I think this is illegal. What is AOL now, the dumped out home pages and photos, now our profiles, they just send you to a site and make money from DOING THAT, check it out, and DUMPED all of us and THEIR services.
Not only did Bebo change my user name but they let somebody else take my name on Bebo that I’ve had for years with AOL / AIM so now I’m getting their spam!!! And why would I want an AOL or AIM profile that shows a different name than my AOL or AIM name??? That’s useless!
Hey AgryAOLer, can you post your screen name or email me at admin@bumped.org
AOL and BEBLOW both suck. I hate fucking AOL and the idiots that think they have us trapped in their web. Well, AOL…blow me.
I repeat..BLOW ME!
I already cancelled the Bebo account. The other person probably signed up for Bebo before AOL bought it. So Bebo added a couple of numbers to my AOL screen name to make a Bebo user name.
Maybe it’s just a coincidence but I started getting spam addressed to my screen name @ aim.com even though I use aol.com (either one can now be used and the mail goes to the same AOL mailbox since AOL started free memberships). Sounds like somebody is assuming all Bebo AIM accounts are the same as AIM!
I haven’t tried to use a profile until the other night. When this “Bebo” thing popped up, I thought I’d done something wrong, and did it over, tried other peoples profiles, kept getting Bebo, and people “aren’t here yet”…… I have been with AOL, for over 10 yrs…. I’m 60 yrs. old, and in this case, you can’t teach old dogs new tricks. I am extremely upset as I’ve stayed with AOL because of it being user friendly…. it no longer is that. I also have Comcast that I never use, however, am considering it, and cancelling AOL….. I have always stayed with AOL as it was easy to navigate, however, that not being the case anymore I may as well use the Comcast for free, and cancel AOL. Hate doing that, but it’s becoming to confusing with this Bebo…. Thanks for listening…… just venting.
AOL PROFILES NOW SUCK!!!!!!!!!!! You cant access it
bebo changed my account name, and has somehow allowed tampering with my account, porn websites posted on my profile, ugggh gross – over 10 yrs ive had aol and never once did i have a problem -…wtf…..someone fix this
Bebo is just flat out WRONG!
EVERY profile should be VIEWABLE unless you turn it off.
Just like the old AOL profiles, if you created one it would be on by default.
Now with the default to UNSEEN / HIDDEN there basically are no more profiles because people don’t know that they have to turn them on.
There was no warning to turn them on or off either…nothing was mentioned.
AOL keeps digging a deeper and deeper grave with all these stupid “decisions” they make.
No wonder people are still leaving in droves.
You don’t even have to pay for it anymore, that’s how bad AOL sucks.
WHY IS AOL DOING EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO DRIVE AWAY THEIR LONG TIME CUSTOMERS?? AOL IS GOING OUT OF BIZNIZZ ANYWAY AS IT IS….BEBO FREAKIN SUCKS PERIOD! ITS A SOCIAL NETWORK FOR FREAKING KIDS…NOT FULL GROWN ADULTS…IF I WAS 13 I MIGHT LIKE IT….BUT BEING 47, I FCKN HATE IT…YOU CANT SEE ANYONES PROFILE NOW…THEN WHATS THE USE OF HAVING A PROFILE? AOL REALLY SCREWED UP THIS TIME. IM LEAVING AOL AN TAKING ALL MY AOL FRIENDS WITH ME….BLOW ME BEBO!
BEBO SUCKS MOOSE COCK! IM LEAVING AOL….BLOW ME!
I WAS PRETTY MAD WHEN I WROTE THE COMMENTS ABOVE…..IM IN A BETTER STATE OF MIND TODAY….AN COOLED OFF….PLEASE EXCUSE MY LANGUAGE….BUT THE FACT REMAINS….BEBO SUX PERIOD!!! I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND WHY AOL HAS TO “FIX” SOMETHING THAT WASN’T BROKEN…ALL I HAVE IS TROUBLE WITH BEBO….AN ITS FRUSTRATING….AN IM STILL PROBABLY GONNA MOVE ON TO ANOTHER INTERNET PROVIDER THATS MORE USER FRIENDLY…(LIKE AOL USED TO BE) BE WELL GOOD PEOPLE…..GOD BLESS…..
Im leaving AOL too. I had enough of this nonsense.
Aol, Give us back our old profiles before you lose what few remaining customers you have left. TY.
aol is a fucken rip off
It took some getting used to, but it’s much better than the old aim profiles. Don’t be a bunch of old fogey’s that can’t deal with change.
Play with it in your spare time and make it work. Not that big of a deal.
Nick…dude…you’re missing the point.
All of our profiles on AOL were supposed to transfer to Bebo, some did, some didn’t.
BUT, you had to turn it on even if it did…no one knows about this. So therefore no one has a viewable profile because they don’t know it’s not viewable. AOL nor Bebo told us it was turned off by default (really retarded). I personally found out by calling AOL Help. To this day the default for profiles are OFF, until the user turns them on (how dumb is that?)
This is just the latest stunt in aol’s long venture in trying to make up for thousands of people leaving their service they figure revamping and making everything new looking and updated will draw more users…wrong. Myself and every person I know dumped aol years ago for a local isp (Armstrong here where we are) because they got to be ridiculous and I haven’t missed them once. Aol was cool back in the day the same way yahoo used to be before it was overrun by bots and constant floods of spam emails…ah the good ol days I guess their gone. The funniest thing I find about aol was after I left them, a few months later I got a letter in the mail from them with a sad smily face on it saying “we miss you here at aol” and the letter had a bunch of their supposed “benifits” of being an aol user like they were going to change my mind and it also had one of their famous disks included that was the current version of aol at that time, can we say desperate?
how do you “turn on” your bebo profile. Please don’t say privacy settings because that’s not it. Please help. In aimchat my gender, location and picture are not visible. My profile is private when clicked on even though I already changed this in bebo privacy settings. Please help.
Thats the point, your Bebo privacy settings is the place where you would change your profile from private to public. All i can suggest is signing off of BEBO and ALL AIM services then signing back on.
yea i know it is just like looking at mum eating chocolate without looking at me what ever!!!!!!!!!!!
ts so disgusting well i cant even contact families….e wat tiko mada..
It is March 9, 2010 and the situation is, I’d still rather have the old way. We are forced to switch browsers to update our profiles and sometimes..even then it doesn’t work. Bebo and the aol browser don’t work well together. It doesn’t work well with IE either. There is no one whatsoever to go to to see about a fix for this.
