PepsiStuff: Five bottle caps per mp3, too expensive?

The Pepsi Stuff contest launched a while ago. The sweepstakes cooperates with Amazonmp3, by allowing you to spend points to download a free mp3. I not really a big deal downloading free mp3s, but its a new frontier for major record labels making up for their mistakes with the RIAA.
Each mp3 costs 5 bottle caps. If you were to buy Five (2 Liter) bottles that would equate to $7.59 per mp3. It may be likely that a 2 Liter Pepsi bottle is on sale, which would typically end up with 1$ per (2 Liter) Bottle equating to $5 per mp3.
Now lets check the price for a (24oz.) 6 pack of Pepsi. The total price equates to less than $5.99. The twelve (12oz) cans costs around $5.49, but they only nets you 2 points.
Pepsi Cola Price Summary
- $7.59 per 1.00 mp3 (2 Liters)
- $5.99 per 1.20 mp3 (24oz 6 pack)
- $5.49 per 0.20 mp3 (12oz 12 pack)
If we decide that $1 should equal 1 point, then the only purchase that makes most sense in this chart would be the 24oz 6 pack, which appears to be the best deal in this situation. Now why is there such a dramatic decrease in points with the 12oz 12pack? Maybe they are secretly promoting their 6 pack bottles?
Points per Product
- 20 oz or 24 oz = 1pt
- 1 lliter or 2 liter = 1pt
- 12oz can 8 or 12 pack = 2pts
- 16.9 oz 12 pack = 4pts
- 24oz 6 pack = 6pts
- 32oz cup = 1pt
Now the question to you is:
Do you think these points are unfair, and will you be participating or boycotting this promotion and why?
There are others who agree with me. Maybe Pepsi should increase the points on some of them.

I M IN 12 OK I M SO HAPYY AND U
Maybe you should pay for what you want to drink and accept the FREE codes as a way of getting a FREE MP3. If you want to do the the math to maximize the amount of codes you get for the amount of Pepsi that you buy, then that is your business. The codes and the prizes that they buy are still FREE, IDIOT!
Maybe if they had had all the mp3s available that would make it a better deal not just the songs nobody likes. As for as him being an Idiot it looks as though a signifigant amount of work went into this post. Why can’t they question if the mp3s are a deal or not I guess some people just agree with everything they are told and never question it. Keep up the good work remember if they call you name you probably hit close to home.
Thank you Homer.
You are forgetting that you are buying and drinking Pepsi. You are Paying to Drink Pepsi. You are being rewarded free stuff for Drinking Pepsi. You are not paying 7.59 for a download. You are paying 7.59 for Pepsi inwhich you drink. By purchasing Pepsi, Pepsi will give you free stuff.
Yes but thats just half of it. The other end of this post deals with the amount of money that you spend to get a free Mp3.
If I were a consumer who wanted to benefit from this promotion, I may think that the more Pepsi I buy the more free Mp3s I am to get. The uninformed consumer could spend 30 dollars to get 1 Mp3. Why? Because the 12oz 12pack of soda throws the whole equation off since you pay a lot more for very low points.
So as Homer was pointing out, its not wrong for the consumer to be informed about this discrepancy. If they choose to participate in this promotion to get a “FREE” mp3, they now know which pack has the best deal for it.
If you were participating in this promotion would you rather pay $30 or $5.99 per Mp3
If you really want to get an idea what you are paying for the MP3, ask yourself what you’d pay for the soda without the promotion. Then subtract that amount from the lovely chart above. The download isn’t free, but neither is the soda. Unless you’re buying the soda for the points only, and pouring it down the drain, adding up the cost of the soda and saying that is the cost of the download is pretty ridiculous.
you’re all a bunch of fucking idiots. it’s fucking pop. let’s try to read into a fucking pop promotion.
um you’re paying for the soda anyways, why not get free stuff?
*facepalm*
Buuuurrrrrrp!
Why complain about points and all that? Yeah, I wish each cap was worth more points, the stuff didn’t cost so many points, or that they were better MP3 downloads to choose from. The way I look at it though is- If I purchase pepsi (usually go for pepsi or coke-whichever is on sale) I save the caps and enter codes. If I don’t purchase pepsi some weeks then oh well. I am not going to buy something just to be able to enter into something or get something free. I learned my lesson on that a while back.
whaaaaaow.
I agree with you. My coke rewards is far better, you get more for less caps.
