Aim Registration Problems “The service you are trying to reach is temporarily unavailable – please try your requestagain. – 25006″

April 2008 Error Message

The bug has resurfaced if you have attempted to make an underage screen name, or if you repeatedly try to create screen names.

For now you can workaround this bug by either creating a screen name from another website, or changing your IP address, or waiting 48 hours before attempting to make a screen name again. There has been no official announcement from AOL, but according to recent site activity, it seems AOL may attempt to fix it. You can still proceed to create your account at AOL.COM instead until its fixed.

Alternate Websites To Create an AIM Screen Name

October 7th Error Message

This version of the bug no longer applies, but it will be left up just in case. Users have reported issues when creating an AIM screen name. Some users who are creating an AIM screen name are greeted with the following error message.

“The service you are trying to reach is temporarily unavailable – please try your requestagain. – 25006″

If you are greeted with this message, it is total ignorance on your part to have your screen name stolen and the loss or suspension of your account. Here’s why:

EZINBuyankina reports that anyone who creates a password that involves any part of their screen name, AOL will mistakenly display that error message. It should actually say that you may not use any part of your screen name as your password.

Here is an example:

Sn: Totallybritneygi

Pw: britney

Since britney is seen in totallybritneygi, you should expect to see the error message. If your using passwords that are easy to figure out, your very likely to get your account stolen and suspended. AOL won’t even help you if your account is stolen so you might as well take the precaution now to create a hard to guess security question [that someone can't ask you] and a hard to guess password.

  • Mmmmn, I’m almost 50 and having this problem too. And it’s NOT the password. My password has been pretty much the same for the past 8-10 years. I’ve gone to MSN instead and yahoo instead.

  • Hi :-)
I started getting this problem a few days ago.
I used to be an aol customer for 6 yrs but left them 15 months ago.
I have continued to use my aol email since then & set up AIM to keep in touch with my many AOL Buddies.
After much frustration the past few days, I decided to search through some help sites today on the problem.
One solution was to empty my cookies folder, which i did & also at the same time I deleted my history folder & cleared the temporary internet folder (which I have set to automatically do whenever I restart the PC) All this can be done from Tools then Internet Options.
I am very pleased & relieved to say that these solutions have worked for me. (touch wood) ;-)
Hope the above info can be of some to help :-)

    Kitty

  • IT’S ABOUT YOUR AGE. YOU MUST BE 13 @ least

  • Hey WBMike, why are the guys at AOL such fucking idiots?! EVERYTHING about AOL SUCKS!!!! Are they just some dumb fucks that all won the lottery, and they’re just doing this shit for fun, because it’s appear that they don’t have a clue as to what the fuck they’re doing.

  • Just a report. I have been trying for three days and I get the same result and I do not use a password that matched the login. I even tried using the screen generator on the site.

But there is a twist. If I follow the screens and actually retry I get a message saying the screen name is available. But I cannot use the name to login. I must have generated 30 usable screen names

  • @Raymond: It just happens to lots of people but since I don’t control AOL, all I can suggest is registering a screen name at the other locations listed in the article.

@Aunt Onnies: I haven’t heard of mismatched passwords yet. Have you tried password reset?

  • AOL is officially a PILE OF RUBBISH. Unacceptable consumer experience. 40 min to register and STILL haven’t managed. I quit. You SHABBY company

  • I FUCKIN HATE AOL! i hope they die. i have been tryin this bull shit over the span of 3 months and t still doesnt work..thats why nobody wants your service..you fuckin suck!

  • why doesnt aim ever fucking work? its so annoying! someone please send me a link that works :(

  • Hey I ‘ve been getting the same shit for 3 days. My pw and sn are so different. What the fuck. Do I still have to download the new version of aim if I go through aol mail? I wasn’t confused about things until this stupid aim made me go crazy.

  • Im trying to fuckin sign up and it keep sayin its unavailable

  • I just had a chuckle reading these messages. I see I am not alone in my frustration!!!!! I created an AIM screen name for myself about 5 days ago and had absolutely no problem. The next day, I tried to make one for my 11 year old son and I have been trying every day. I get the “service unavailable” message about every third try. I also get the “screen name already taken” message. So I use one of their suggestions, which are supposedly available, and then it says it is already taken. #^*%!!! DOES ANYONE KNOW if there an age limit to get an AIM screen name? I tried using his real birthday and a fake birthday. Nothing works.

  • The Aim registration goes crazy if you register with a birthday of under 13. That seems to trigger this bug because if you register again at another time with a different birthday older than 13, you’ll get the error message.

  • stupid aim!!!!!

  • I keep trying to sign up, but aol keeps saying my passwords too easy to guess and my password is a mix of lower case letters, upper case letter etc.
but every single friggin time it keeps sayin that, i don’t know what to do, i must have tried different passwords about over ten times.

  • I just wanted to let you guys know that if you’re still trying to create a screen name and it’s not working…use a different internet browser. I’ve had been trying to create a s/n for weeks with Internet explorer. My friend used FireFox and was able to create it in two seconds. See if it works for you. Good luck!

  • a few days ago i wanted to make a aim account but it wasnt working and i had no idea why, so i tried again and again because it said something like “sorry but we are unable to register you at this time. sorry for an inconvinec” then a few days later someone showed me this website and at first i thougth my aim account wasnt working cause i entered a age a bit younger than 13, so i tried a different email address and made my age a little older but some tag error came up under the email address, so i tried a different email address and the same thing happened, and i’m getting so angry! i just want a aim account! someone please help me with this!!!!!!!!

  • @jillian

The same thing happened to me! its so annoying i can’t do anything about it. I want an aim badly but no dice because of this. the error doesn’t even make any sense. What did we do wrong?

  • You instantly flag yourself for this message if you make an account if you are younger than 13 years of age. However as the post recommends, you can actually create an AOL screen name which can be signed in under AIM as well. As long as you don’t put yourself as underaged.

  • why cant i see the registration code

  • every time i try to make an account i put in all the information.. passwords screename and they all check out but when i press submit it puts red boxes around my password like something is wrong with it. they both match, and are both listed as “excellent” passwords. i keep putting in new passwords. same thing happens…. GRRRR

  • No, I’m not underage, and my password was approved at the time I created it…it just won’t accept my confirmation log in so I can’t log in. It tells me “It appears you didn’t respond to your confirmation email.” Then I resend and keep getting ““The service you are trying to reach is temporarily unavailable – please try your request again. This never ends. Why am I doing this? Because google inexplicably chose to partner with AIM for part of its chat feature. AIM is crap…how stupid is a company when you can’t even get an account set up? This is so easy everywhere else.

  • omg, im trying to sin up up for aim but their’s a new message saying error code 402 and it says come back in 1 day, but when i try again it does the same thing again, again, and again. WHAT THE FUCK DO I DAMN DO, JUST S T T E E ! ?
    I H R !
