April 2008 Error Message

The bug has resurfaced if you have attempted to make an underage screen name, or if you repeatedly try to create screen names.

For now you can workaround this bug by either creating a screen name from another website, or changing your IP address, or waiting 48 hours before attempting to make a screen name again. There has been no official announcement from AOL, but according to recent site activity, it seems AOL may attempt to fix it. You can still proceed to create your account at AOL.COM instead until its fixed.

Alternate Websites To Create an AIM Screen Name

October 7th Error Message

This version of the bug no longer applies, but it will be left up just in case. Users have reported issues when creating an AIM screen name. Some users who are creating an AIM screen name are greeted with the following error message.

“The service you are trying to reach is temporarily unavailable - please try your requestagain. - 25006″

If you are greeted with this message, it is total ignorance on your part to have your screen name stolen and the loss or suspension of your account. Here’s why:

EZINBuyankina reports that anyone who creates a password that involves any part of their screen name, AOL will mistakenly display that error message. It should actually say that you may not use any part of your screen name as your password.

Here is an example:

Sn: Totallybritneygi

Pw: britney

Since britney is seen in totallybritneygi, you should expect to see the error message. If your using passwords that are easy to figure out, your very likely to get your account stolen and suspended. AOL won’t even help you if your account is stolen so you might as well take the precaution now to create a hard to guess security question [that someone can't ask you] and a hard to guess password.

  1. But I stil get the error message and pw is way different.

  2. Same here. The screen name I’m requesting and password have nothing in common. The password meets some pretty strict “security” tests. Any other suggestions?

  3. This article is of total ignorance. The reasons you have described for the error message could not be more off track.

  4. The bug that triggered this error message that started October 2nd, 2007, triggered that message. It was a reproducible bug reported by many that triggered the INCORRECT message which was already stated in the article. However this bug has been fixed since then, and now says, “We’re sorry, but the password you’ve chosen may be too easy for others to guess. Need help choosing a more secure password?” Please make sure to read the article before posting a comment.

i’m getting the error right now.

“The service you are trying to reach is temporarily unavailable - please try your requestagain. - 25002″

    not this one

“We’re sorry, but the password you’ve chosen may be too easy for others to guess. Need help choosing a more secure password?”

    this is really frustrating

  6. I’m having the exact same problem. Trying to get a new screen name and getting a pop-up with this message.

“The service you are trying to reach is temporarily unavailable - please try your requestagain. - 25002?

  7. Anonymous UNITED STATES Jan 16th 2008

For now considering it popped up again and the first time the message popped up was for October 7. You can additionally create a screen name at AOL.com by clicking Get Free AOL Mail. AOL screen names can sign onto AIM as well.

  8. you idiots.
you are getting that error message because you’ve tried way too many times to make a new screenname.

    try again in 48 hours.

  9. Anonymous UNITED STATES Jan 23rd 2008

    Already got that covered.

  10. i cannot sign in on my aim it says connection failed and i am getting so mad about it

  11. i tried back in 48 hours and it still didnt work.
the error message popped up again.

  12. All I can suggest now is making a screen name at AOL.com

i am on the AOL website trying to creat a screen name for my dad. all the information is fine but it is giving me the “The service you are trying to reach is temporarily unavailable - please try your requestagain. - 25002″ message and its making me hate AOL even more. do they even want people subscribing to aim? it would almost be worth it to pay the $50 or whatever to get a .mac. this AOL company is worthless.

  20. varu-chan UNITED STATES Mar 1st 2008

Its been happing to me too. Im gonna throw my computer againt the wall if it keeps giving me that message. And my password and screen name have nothing in common.

  21. Since this occurred after January 2008, the password and screen name similarity doesn’t apply to you.

  22. Justin UNITED STATES Mar 3rd 2008

This error just started happening a couple days ago… I have 2 current screen names. My back up one works still and i can get logged in.. the other one I use frequently won’t work… Is there anything to help us BESIDES creating a new screen name. Ugh.. I hate this…..

  33. Well, Caroline how ’bout u keep trying for a bit longer, than if it still doesnt work wait a few days.

  34. continuing… WBmike im gonna try aim one more time… see ya!
ill give u the report when im done.. probably ill be back in 5 min.

  35. same problem… i guess im forced to use AOL.com.

  36. it wont even work for me on aol.com!!!!!!! i’ve tried every day 10,00 times a day and nothing works!!!!!!!!!!! I waited a week… NOTHING! I even tried across the country in Arizona. Once again nothing! How do i get my first aim account?!

  37. i tried again from aol.com and it gave some s*** about we thank you for your intrest in obtaining this service, but we are unable to permit you for this service at this time. Sorry for inconvience. or something like that. should i say im 13 even though i’m 11? what should i do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  38. Because your underage, and they are blocking you from registering. For your own safety I suggest waiting until your actually 13.

  41. Victor UNITED STATES Apr 5th 2008

Well, I have tried registering numerous times.

Even tried registering on a different computer in the same household. I guess they are going off of external IP, and not stored cookies.

I still get the same message on AOL.com

I suppose I will just wait two days and see what happens. This sure is strange.

  42. sherwin UNITED STATES Apr 13th 2008

what the ++++ i cant figure out how this thing wil work i try to make an account and it wont work this freakin things says sorry for your inconvenice but try again and its says error 20814 it wont let me make a new account and i have been tryin for 7 freakin days now this is redicouloius

  43. this thing sucks. why do people use aim anyways? does anyone actually get it to work?

  44. Aaaah! Finally after two weeks of trying, I was able to create an account for my boss via the AOL website. The AIM site absolutely sucks - even if you use the "report a bug" option, there are no options related to account creation, and they say you have to agree you understand you won’t receive support. WTF? It’s under the Support tab.

  45. Wow Two weeks!?

Yes you won’t receive support because your not a paying member, thats how AOL goes.

You can receive voluntary support on this website but there is only so much I can do.

  46. Victor UNITED STATES Apr 17th 2008

I got mine to work by changing my IP address.

    Worked perfectly first try. :)

I was getting this message for the first time today for several hours:
“The service you are trying to reach is temporarily unavailable - please try your request again.”

I’m on a Mac using Safari.

I deleted the cookies that were related to aol and IT WORKED!!!

    HTH someone!

  49. anonymous UNITED STATES Apr 23rd 2008

is the age limit really 13? my bff told me that there is no age limit and she got in with 1998, i think!

  50. I’m 50 and having this problem. Won’t even get to the aim site. Started a few days ago. Went to MSN instead but can’t get to my aim site. Darn shame, guess I’ll have to use another site. My password has been pretty much the same for 8-10 years, so it’s NOT the password.

  51. Mmmmn, I’m almost 50 and having this problem too. And it’s NOT the password. My password has been pretty much the same for the past 8-10 years. I’ve gone to MSN instead and yahoo instead.

Hi :-) I started getting this problem a few days ago.
I used to be an aol customer for 6 yrs but left them 15 months ago.
I have continued to use my aol email since then & set up AIM to keep in touch with my many AOL Buddies.
After much frustration the past few days, I decided to search through some help sites today on the problem.
One solution was to empty my cookies folder, which i did & also at the same time I deleted my history folder & cleared the temporary internet folder (which I have set to automatically do whenever I restart the PC) All this can be done from Tools then Internet Options.
I am very pleased & relieved to say that these solutions have worked for me. (touch wood) ;-) Hope the above info can be of some to help :-)
    Kitty

Hey WBMike, why are the guys at AOL such fucking idiots?! EVERYTHING about AOL SUCKS!!!! Are they just some dumb fucks that all won the lottery, and they’re just doing this shit for fun, because it’s appear that they don’t have a clue as to what the fuck they’re doing.

  55. Aunt Onnies Moose UNITED STATES Jul 19th 2008

Just a report. I have been trying for three days and I get the same result and I do not use a password that matched the login. I even tried using the screen generator on the site.

But there is a twist. If I follow the screens and actually retry I get a message saying the screen name is available. But I cannot use the name to login. I must have generated 30 usable screen names

  56. @Raymond: It just happens to lots of people but since I don’t control AOL, all I can suggest is registering a screen name at the other locations listed in the article.

@Aunt Onnies: I haven’t heard of mismatched passwords yet. Have you tried password reset?

  57. AOL is officially a PILE OF RUBBISH. Unacceptable consumer experience. 40 min to register and STILL haven’t managed. I quit. You SHABBY company
