How to Extract Files and Install A Skin

Well there’s one thing I learned this weekend. People don’t know how to use ZIP files! You have to learn how to use them or you’ll be barred from downloading half the things on the internet. Don’t even attempt trying to start your own blog or website if you don’t know how to extract. Here’s a tutorial below that will show you exactly what to do with screenshots!

How To Setup A Folder

Today we will be installing a BLUE skin.

1. First Close AIM

2. Go to my bumpxblue page.

3. Put your Mouse over Zip, Right Click, and press Save Target As…

4. Check the Top bar, see where it says Save In? Make sure the white space says C: If it doesn’t say Local Disk C:, Click on that area and select "Local Disk C:"

5. Right Click within a blank white space where all the folders are, and click New > Folder

6. Type A Folder Name, In Mine I typed "Tutorial Town"

7. Double Click on your New Folder, it will be blank, Press Save!

8. After it finishes downloading press Open Folder!

How To Unzip A File

You can unzip a file using WinZip, WinRar, and even Windows!

9. Now your at the Folder, right click on the zip file, and press Open With > Compressed (zipped) Folders

10. On the Left Hand Side Under Folder Taks, Click Extract All Files

11. Press Next a few times and Check Mark Show Extracted Files

12. A New Window will Pop Up! Double Click the Folders until you reach up to the readme files and other files inside.

13. In the Readme File,  the first step says go to the Folder:

C:\Program Files\AIM6\services\imApp\ver6_5_3_12\theme

The Easiest way to get to this folder is to highlight the whole line above, Copy And Paste the whole line above into the Address bar, after you paste that path, DON’T PUSH ENTER OR GO YET!!!! The readme file wants you to extract and overwrite the themes.box, so Right Click on themes.box and Press COPY.

14. Press GO in the Address Bar

15. The Readme File wants you to overwrite themes.box in this folder. You can do this by pressing CTRL+V on your keyboard, Its going to popup saying would you Replace the existing file, and press Yes! Congratulations you’ve now learned how to Extract and Overwrite a file!

16. In the Readme file, it says create a new folder called bumpxblue, Right Click on a white space and press New > Folder, type out the name bumpxblue. Double Click on this new folder, and it will be empty.

17. At the top of the window, click the Back Button until your back into the "Tutorial Town" folder with the readme files and box files.

18. The Readme files says to extract themesbrushes.box into the bumpxblue directory you just created. So in order to do that, right click on themeBrushses.box, Press COPY. At the top, keep clicking the Green right arrow to go forward to your bumpxblue folder. Right Click in a blank space and press PASTE.

19. Now Press the Back button again until your in the "Tutorial Town" Folder of bumpxblue with all the readme files and box files. Right Click the images folder, and press COPY. Go Forward again up to the AIM Folder of bumpxblue, and right click and press Paste.

20. Go Back to the Tutorial Town Folder of bumpxblue with all the readme files and box files. The readme file says to extract and overwrite blgadgets.box file into the Folder:

C:\Program Files\AIM6\services\imApp\ver6_5_3_12\content\bl 

Now stop and take a moment to think about what your supposed to do next.. Its just like step 13.

21. After you COPIED and PASTED blgadgetsbox.box into that folder stated above, you have completed installing the skin.

So lets recap what you learned.

–EXTRACT a file means to click Extract and put them in a folder.
–OVERWRITE a file means to COPY and PASTE a file by right clicking on it.

Apply what you learned to the other themes and you’ll be done in no time.
