Aim Music Link Plugin Problems, if it doesn’t show up or repeats music playing
History
Aim Music Link is a plugin developed by AOL Developer Greg. The function of this plugin is to display the music title and artist inside your AIM Status. Each time you switch to another song, the plugin will change your AIM status to the title of that song. Originally in 2007, there was an issue where AIM Music Link did not display the song that was supposed to play.
During that time the author updated the plugin and recommended everyone to upgrade their AIM version to Aim 6.5. However, in 2009, the latest versions of AIM are Aim 6.9 and Aim 7.0. This issue has been fixed during that time.
Do you have Aim 7?
The latest version of AIM that includes plugin support is Aim 6.9. As for Aim 7.0, during the development stages of Aim 7.0, the program authors decided to remove plugin support. Because of this, AIM Music Link will not function.
You will have to wait until AIM Developers add plugin support back inside the program.Keep in mind, Aim 7.0′s is trying to “loose weight”, so to speak, by reducing the program’s resources. Whether it really uses less resources from Aim 6.9 is up for debate but that’s another post. Plugins may return, but they do tack onto the resources of the program.
Problems
- Do You Have Aim Music Link Installed?
- Do you have Aim 6.9 installed and not 7.0?
If you answered NO to any of these questions, you must reinstall Aim 6.9 for this plugin to work. The plugin supports a wide range of music programs. You can change settings for this plugin through AIM. Open
Aim 6.9 and click to access Music Link’s settings:
- Click View
- Hover over Plugins
- Click AIM Music Link
From here you can change the options of how you want Music Link to be displayed.
In my experience, Music Link works best with these multimedia players: Winamp, Foobar, and iTunes 8. It does support all the major music players but there have been cases where someone complains that it’s not working. Generally with Aim Music Link 4.1.0.0 you should not have any problems with status messages not showing up.
If AIM is already open and you open your music player, your status message will not auto update with the song you are playing. Remember it only updates the status when you change your song.

even if you download 6.2 & download that music link, how come it doesn’t show up in your profile? do i need to use “%song” still? pleaseeee help?

There is a bug where buddy updates only show RSS Feeds and Aim Share, we have to wait until AOL fixes it.
i did reinstall iTunes(7.5, newest version), AIM(newest stable version), and musiclink(2.0.04, newest version). no such luck on solving the problem. even after a restart of AIM, and then of the computer.
more info: doesn’t show song in profile or status line at all. profile says i haven’t listened to any music yet, despite last.fm disagreeing completely.

i just have a question with aim music link, um, why does mine when im playing a song always go back to an old song ive played, and back and forth between the current song and the old song during playback?

AIM MusicLink is working fine for me. I love it!
Just a couple of questions:
-Can I set it so the song name comes before the artist name? (i.e. it would look like "Song Name – Artist")
-Can I put this in my away message?

How can I delete the AIM Music Link folder from My Documents? I don’t keep logs and it recreates every time I start AIM.
Along the same lines…can I delete the AIM folder from My Documents too?

@Jayo: Aim Music link reads the song format shown by the player. In order to edit this you’ll have to be able to change the format of the song title within the music player and not aim. Currently I have tested that Foobar is able to do this. It can share songs while away also in the settings
@Jo: You need to uninstall AIM Music Link from your control panel. Click Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and find AIm Music Link
@Chance: AIm Music Link only says what songs your playing. If you want people to listen to your music, you need the AIM Tunes plugin found at http://gallery.aim.com
I have no idea why my aim music link isnt working, i have aim (6.5) and itunes (7).. it keeps saying there is no music currently playing, and i do have music playing on itunes.. plz help D=
how do I get rid of the musiclink buddy update in my aim profile, saying that i’ve installed it? i installed it over 3 days ago and it won’t go away, even though i have my buddy updates turned off. i even uninstalled musiclink and restarted my computer and it’s still there.

ive uninstalled the plug in, deleted and reinstalled AIM 3 times and it wont go awayy!!!!!! please help.
it works for me. it shows on the status place under name like this.
“♫ name of music” and in your profile it shows like this. “I’m currently listening to “name of music”.” dunno why it doesnt work for you guys.
i also, like chelsea, want the grey box to go away. i tried uninstalling it without exiting aim first, and i think that may have been where i went wrong. help?
The plugin and buddy updates are two seperate things. It doesn’t matter how many times you uninstall the plugin or aim, your buddy update will still show. Every buddy update message takes a while to expire, it can take around 3-7 days before it disappears.

I can’t get the songs to appear when I’m away…
why is it only working with itunes and not winamp
I am using songbird 1.0.0 and music link 4.1.0.0 and i’ve got nothing.
I just installed songbird and uninstalled then reinstalled music link. still nothing.
what should i do?
Doesn’t work. At all. Period. For any player. I uninstalled and reinstalled all of my players, aim, musiclink, and even tried uninstalling last.fm. Music link does not work.
After a bit more tinkering, the best I can get it to do is work with media player 11… Which I don’t use. Thanks for the quality craftsmanship. I’ll go write my own plugin, I suppose.

my itunes works fine, but not winamp. i don’t really like using itunes for listening.
Alright, I have a REALLY big problem:
Every time I enable Music Link to show what Music I am playing on my status, it ALWAYS shows a song in my music library that is the same one and I am not playing. Heck, I don’t even have WMP 11 opened when this shows. I currently have the newest aim and the newest musiclink and after many un-installations the song continues to show unless I put on my away message or manually change my status.
I reaally want to know hwo to fix this, if its possible.

Music Link has been working fine for me up until this past week. It overrides all my other status and away messages and ALWAYS displays what I’m listening to. It started doing this about a week ago, but before that it didn’t show what I was listening to when I was away, which I liked, and would like back. Help?

Hey, I’m having the same problem as Jessi, Miriam and mriz! It always says I’m playing Gorillaz-19-2000 (soul mix) but I haven’t listened to that song in WEEKS! I haven’t even listened to WMP in maybe a month. It’s been doing that since around June 22nd, like Jessi’s. I uninstalled AIM Music Log, reinstalled it, turned it off by going to View–>Plugins–>Aim Music Link Preferences and that same song is STILL showing up. I always have to go in and manually change my status, and all my friends think I’ve been listening to this one cheesy song for like months now. Please help WBMike!
I tried uninstalling MusicLink, but it’s still lingering. I even uninstalled AIM and told it to uninstall the plugins, and it still creates logs every time I turn it on. It makes my AIM freeze when I open iTunes.

Its 7.0 npw…..is that maybe the problem…? this is completely ridiculous. I have tried 20 different methods and nothing has changed…it will not run after downloading.

Okay, Idk how old this post is, but AIM music link does work. I can not get it to work on this computer bc I have AIM 7. Idk what my other computer has but It does show what songs I play, but I do do all of my updates manually ^^ but just to say, i do have a AIM that has music link working on ti.
