How to get the Old Yahoo Mobile News Back!
So Yahoo updated their Mobile News portal two weeks ago and quite frankly, it sucks. The old news portal used to have a wealth of information and multiple sub categories putting all your news together. Now they have updated it forcing you to login and add your own RSS Feeds. This would be great, but most RSS feeds don’t display the whole content, forcing you to "click here for more". Sadly you can’t even click within the RSS feed, making it practically useless.

Now your done and you can enjoy the whole news from your cell phone!

Use AIM and MSN on your Cellphone without Paying for Text Messages

Verizon users read up! We finally have a site that allows us the freedom to use AIM, MSN, Gtalk, and Skype. It works perfectly on LGVX8300, just don’t try to edit your groups or you’ll get that insufficient memory crap.
How to Get AIM on your Cellphone for Free
Nimbuzz uses the WAP protocol so no text messages are needed and there is no need to download any applications. Now AT&T, Cingular, and T-Mobile users don’t really need to worry about this because they have applications already but if your still curious, here’s a list of how to access AIM, MSN, etc on your cellphone depending on your carrier.
Verizon Users
Verizon users need to have both America’s Choice Basic + VCast Vpack. If you have America’s Choice Select, or America’s Choice Premium, there is no need to read on. Select and Premium plans have unlimited Text Messages and you can use AIM from Get It NoW! for Free.
1. Open Verizon Wireless Mobile Web
2. Press Menu
3. Press Go to URL
4. Type Url: web.nimbuzz.com
5. Register and Login
6. Click Settings
7. Click Communities
8. Choose your Community and enter Login Information!
T-Mobile Users
T-mobile Users, can either use AIM from their cellphone’s desktop or use T-Mobile branded AIM through T-zones. If you have unlimited text messages you do not need to use Tzones Aim as it is much slower and painful to use. If you have unlimited T-Zones you can also MSN Method
For AIM
1. Press Tzones
2. Type AIM in Search Box
3. Press AIM and Sign In!
For MSN
1. Go to http://www.nimbuzz.com/en/getstarted/mobile/
2. Enter your Cellphone
3. Send Link to Download Java App
AT&T iPhone Users
Its odd how iPhone users get the least crippled software on their phones. iPhone users have a variety of choices to use but the most popular one right now is TinyBuddy, it works only for iPhone.
1. Click Safari
2. Type URL: http://x.aim.com/ty/
3. Sign in!
The Alternatives
Ebuddy and E-Messenger are the only major alternatives for Wap aim.

Universal Music Group’s DRM Free initiative. Thanks, but its just not good enough
Updated August 13th
Did the recent surge of DRM Free blog posts earlier this month inspire Universal Music Group to step into action? I wouldn’t say this blog clearly influenced it, but I was following a small group of bloggers who posted about their DRM free lifestyle and how it has worked for them. If you don’t know by now, New York Times reported that UMG is testing the waters for DRM Free music. However this test will last until mid Janurary.
The Project
What we do know is that the music will go on sale August 20th, and will be sold offline in Best Buy, Walmart, Rhapsody, Amazon, and directly from the recording labels themselves such as Defjam. Universal will sell tracks on gbox.com. One of the main points behind this MP3 project is to not sell music on iTunes. Its not really a huge blow for iTunes anyway, its just that at this point in time, the iTunes name is synonymous with the iPod. iTunes is already known for selling music that works only on Apple products. However, by creating a new online store, Universal can advertise a name that is synonymous to “buying mp3s”. Universal Music Group is testing the waters to see if a store can thrive without the use of iTunes.
The Speculation
Universal Music Groups MP3 campaign will end around Janurary, making this whole project somewhat pointless. I believe what may happen is that Universal Music Group will take the stance that if not many people buy the songs, then Mp3s aren’t a profitable business venture. The RIAA will boldy pronounce their, “I TOLD YOU SO!” press release as we get sent back to the sue-happy lawsuit carnival. What I really want Universal to do is fully embrace the project. Yes during the few months of selling Mp3s, sales won’t be great as expected, but I believe the general public may not understand how good the store will work out for them. It will take a huge ad campaign, lots of good customer service, ease of use, and some radio promotion to get the buzz out there. I want to hear DJs say, “you can download this song at blahblahblah dot com”, and MTV, Fuse, and others place an easy to remember link to download the song during a video.
The Rebirth
If however this project fails, don’t take up the defense for DRM music. Start all over, releasing only new artists to MP3, then, slowly increase the music library when you figure out what music people download. After a few years we can have a store who’s name will be the #1 source of buying DRM-Free music.

Aim Music Link Plugin Problems, if it doesn’t show up or repeats music playing
History
Aim Music Link is a plugin developed by AOL Developer Greg. The function of this plugin is to display the music title and artist inside your AIM Status. Each time you switch to another song, the plugin will change your AIM status to the title of that song. Originally in 2007, there was an issue where AIM Music Link did not display the song that was supposed to play.
During that time the author updated the plugin and recommended everyone to upgrade their AIM version to Aim 6.5. However, in 2009, the latest versions of AIM are Aim 6.9 and Aim 7.0. This issue has been fixed during that time.
Do you have Aim 7?
The latest version of AIM that includes plugin support is Aim 6.9. As for Aim 7.0, during the development stages of Aim 7.0, the program authors decided to remove plugin support. Because of this, AIM Music Link will not function.
You will have to wait until AIM Developers add plugin support back inside the program.Keep in mind, Aim 7.0′s is trying to “loose weight”, so to speak, by reducing the program’s resources. Whether it really uses less resources from Aim 6.9 is up for debate but that’s another post. Plugins may return, but they do tack onto the resources of the program.
Problems
- Do You Have Aim Music Link Installed?
- Do you have Aim 6.9 installed and not 7.0?
If you answered NO to any of these questions, you must reinstall Aim 6.9 for this plugin to work. The plugin supports a wide range of music programs. You can change settings for this plugin through AIM. Open
Aim 6.9 and click to access Music Link’s settings:
- Click View
- Hover over Plugins
- Click AIM Music Link
From here you can change the options of how you want Music Link to be displayed.
In my experience, Music Link works best with these multimedia players: Winamp, Foobar, and iTunes 8. It does support all the major music players but there have been cases where someone complains that it’s not working. Generally with Aim Music Link 4.1.0.0 you should not have any problems with status messages not showing up.
If AIM is already open and you open your music player, your status message will not auto update with the song you are playing. Remember it only updates the status when you change your song.
