What Does it Mean When Your Aim Account Is Suspended?
When your Aim Account is suspended, you will not be able to sign into AIM at all and will be blocked from receiving email. Unfortunately the chances of getting your account reinstated and turn back on is slim and for the most part, people never get it turned back on. Recently however, AOL has been sending out emails when your account gets suspended so that you are informed before attempting to sign on.
Can I Unsuspend My Account?
Unsuspending an account is very rare, and doesn’t happen very often, but its not impossible. Paid AOL screen names can restore service by calling AOL and someone will be able to inform you as to why your account was suspended.
Suggestions
One of my commenters, ikeism, gave a tip on how to reinstate your Aim account if it gets suspended for no reason. Aim accounts appear to get suspended for seemingly no reasons at all. Its suspected your account may be comprimised and used to send spam, although I believe someone with access is deliberately suspended accounts. ikeism suggested you call AOL at (800) 827-3338 and choose the option that you want to sign up for a AOL. When you get connected to customer support, tell them that your willing to pay to get your account back on. They will look into why it got suspended and then reactivate you. They gave another number 888-758-0297 that you can call if your screen names were to get suspended again.

one day last week i tried to sign into my screename and it said it was suspended and i didnt even do anything. how do i unsuspend it?
i tried this and the guy said they couldnt do anything unless it was AOL related and sense i didnt have aol that i need to go to the AIM help page… which as all of you may no is NOO help.. so i lost the best screen name in the world (have had it for 8 years) and my buddy list because… well i have no idea why. i am so pissed
i have the same problem. for some reason my account was suspended. wtf? i came home to sign on and it said screen name suspended. this is bs.
i tried ths number and they couldn’t help me. they transferred me over and then gave me a number for aim phoneline, but no one can help with aim itself because it is a “free service.” this is so frustrating!
same thing i tryed to get on one day and it says name supended and no one can tell me why i lost everything buddy list e mail addresses pic and no way to get them all back.its a shame aol does this to people when they say they are there to help you there not unless your a paying custmer.they do this to ,to many people there should be something some one can do to them
i agree with you ^^ theres absolutely no reason for them to suspend screen names. one person i saw on a forum, dunno if it was this one or another, received an email at their alternate email address saying they violated terms of service. I never received one of those emails!!

Some Guy was going around saying how he payed $20 to get his screen name unsuspended but I don’t even know how trustworthy that sounds.
My aim account just got suspended today. I believe AO (HELL) want you to use their client and if you do not they will suspend your account. I use Pidgin for my client. Check out the date at the bottom of their help page.

From my information AOL had this plan in the works for a while. Can you say class action lawsuit? AOL is stupid. Look for a new IM server and client at http://www.fuck-aim.com.

Your Screen Name has been suspended. There are several reasons why you may have received this message:
1. Screen Names that were previously used on AOL but have been cancelled, can no longer be used on AIM. This includes both master accounts and sub-accounts.
I’ve had my screenname since AOL 3.0 and like most people, I cancelled my AOL 7+years ago when I got my first cable modem. That means for 7+ years, I was in violation of their TOS. As of last week, my screenname has been mysteriously suspended (without warning). I can’t retrieve my friends list or anything. YET ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF AOL’S SHEISTINESS… Dont’ let me get started on how they scammed me by moving my brother’s sn to a seperate acct and then charged me for 2 accts for a while…
I forgot to add. At the time of my suspension, i WAS using Trillian to merge my MSN and AIM lists. I dunno if that’s a violation of their TOS. It could be another reason why I was suspended. Either reason is still BS. I wish AOL would be a little clearer as to why they did this.

hello guys, I’ve had the same thing happen to me but I’ve had over 1,000 screen names suspended in my case. there are actually a few ways you can get them unsuspended, but they require a lot of work and some good social engineering. although only 4 of my screen names that were suspended were my main ones, they were my oldest ones that go way back.
method 1 to getting your screen name back: Call AOL and try to jumble up your words to reset the account so you can get it back, eventually the worker will get mad and will reset the account due to your “mouth surgery”
method 2 (NOT RECOMMENDED):
this method is way more difficult and could potentially put you in jail. there is a program that AOL uses called “Merlin” for AOL screen names, and a program called “WHAops” to unsuspended, suspend, lock, or unlock screen names. both of these programs are in AOL’s internal services and you must get (hack) an AOL workers account in order to get access to these programs. once you get access to the workers account, you still need something called a SecurID, since this happens in many cases. If you get the workers SecurID, you’re almost there. Once in the AOL service you can start doing your work and get your account(s) back. although for the programs, I’ve heard that you need a SecurID for them too, but those change EVERY 60 seconds, so you must work fast.
IMPORTANT=====
i do not have merlin or whaops and i do not have ACCESS to any AOL worker accounts, so please do not email me to unsuspend your screen names.

I too had the misfortune of losing my screen. I have had my screen name for years, and now they take it away without any notification. Unfair, and to bad there is nothing you can do about it. This really stinks.
And then they want you to pay for something when they don’t even want to help you, think again!

I recently had my account suspended because a virus or phishing site sent unsolicited IMs from my screenname. I’ve had little luck finding a solution. Has anyone tried ikeism’s suggestion to call and agree to pay to have your account restored? I’m unclear about whether you actually have to pay, or if it’s just a bluff.
In his case it wasn’t a bluff to pay but it was just a ploy to get someone to talk to you. As for everyone else who tried that they didn’t get far. So maybe he was just lucky.

Aim is a bunch of bullshit!! you can’t do anything on here anymore…no matter what you try to do … they will find a reason to make something go wrong. i would switch to yahoo IMing or something. its much easier

I had my screenname for 4 years. It was originally a Netscape email/screen name but after a few years AOL ate Netscape and ever since that happened I started getting tons and tons of spam. Then suddenly without warning last week my accound was suspended. BS to teh extreme!!!

AIM and AOL will let any minority person blast white people on their news story reply board but god forbid you mention the person is herein the us illegally or have a negative view of the story they publish. AOL/AIM have latino talk and black chat but white talk/chat would be a BAD THING. Its a joke. Aim/AOl is bias against whites, period.

The information i am given when i try to sign on to my account that I have had for 12 years! is

I paid for my account for years and years and then some one from aol called me and said thT since I had a broadband connection I could have my aol for free! i was thrilled! of course I said YES lets do that, after all it was saveing me over 120.00 a year to do this.
Now, over two weeks ago. one of my Very Old screen names associated with my aol account got hacked, I never use the screen name that they say was in violation so i know it was hacked. They say it was used to send a harrassing email and they also mentioned a chat room entry but will not tell me what was said. they just said it caused an automatic suspension of my account and every account associated with it.
My main account is MY BUISNESS! it has over 300 contacts in it , over 800 pertinant emails on it and is Known worldwide for the services i provide! The phone number i called connected me to what i believe is INDIA, or some heavily Inda populated area. they told me I only had one option to get my account back on.
I was told to write to this address by hand and send it snail mail BEGGING FOR MY ACCOUNT BACK: AOL LLC " ATTENTION MESH TEAM" 22270 PACIFIC BLVD DULES VA 20166.
Despite the feeling of humilliation I wrote the letter, I explained i am a dissaabled person and that mmy livlyhood depended on the info i have stored in my account and that my wife also has an account under my name and it was our main source of communication while she was away on an emergency trip to settle the estate of her father who died unexpectedly just a few days before.
i explained that I would never violate any rules and that I never have in 12 years and that the account that was actually in violation had not been used by me for a very long time.
i explained everything very clearly and i was literally BEGGING them to turn at least my maain account back on.
over two weeks have gone by. I just got a call from my Old address in another state that i have not lived at for over two years now. AOL sent a letter to me and I had my renter open it and read it to me over the phone and all it says is that My accounts are suspended, They are suspended indefiently and thatthe matter is NOT open for disscussion and the they do not witsh to ever have communications with me again.
How’s that for funny? and yes! I offered to pay. I offered to pay for account usage from now on. i offered to pay a lump sum to have it back on, i even offered to pay if they would just turn it back on for a DAY so I could get all my info recorded.
NOPE! they will not help. and they are Rude.

I told them i am an avid internet user and respected shipper of goods all over the world and even gave charachter refrences out the whazooo to no avail.
they cannot even write a erson back to the address on the envelope, they write to your last known address instead.
sure I can delete my AOL and make all new accounts, but why? i will not be contacted by my repeat customers through those new email addresses. and if i build a rep with the new email addresses i will still be subject to AOL’s censorship and rediculouse suspension techniques.

hey guys this has happened to me, well this is what i did to fix it, its worth a shot for you guys to, just reset ur IP or change it whatever just go to start then run, run cmd, in the box type ipconfig/release then unplug ur modem and wait a couple minutes, then plug ur modem back in then type in the box ipconfig/renew this is for windows xp

I got the suspended message and clicked a few times then came back to it a few minutes later and it worked….not really sure what happened.
I had the same unexplained suspension issue. However, after upgrading to aim 6.0 it let me in. No idea why. Since the majority of you seem to have been suspended on 6.0, it may be worth a try to install an older version and try to log in again. Hope this helps.

i decided to try logging onto my aim email and as soon as i did, the only message in my inbox was an autoreply that said my account had been reactivated after being dormant.
so basically, try logging into your aim email. as soon as i did my screen name was fine!
I had this happen to me tonight. I was signed into AIM and went to check my email and it kept saying I it was an invalid screenname or the wrong password. I couldnt figure out what was going on so I signed out of AIM and tried to sign back in and it said my name had been suspended. I freaked out, Ive had my screen name/email for 8 yrs.
i searched and searched for a soultion, I tried every website and every soultion I could and nothing would work. finally I found something that did…
I googled an earlier version of aim. ( i think i did 5.9) I tried to sign into that one and it didnt work. So I pulled back up the newer version ( i didnt delete it when I DLed the old version) and It worked perfectly..email and everything.
Well I’ll add these suggestions to the list of things you can do.
