How To Save Your Buddy List on Aim 6

Another Frequently Asked Question, for now the only way to save your buddy list in Aim 6.5 is to download the plugin called Buddy List Options.
This plugin enables you to Import and Export your buddy list so that you can transfer them to your friends and buddies.
Its expected this feature will be included into the Aim series one day.
To Save your Buddy List in Aim 6
–Download Buddy List Operations
–Install the program.
–Close and Restart Aim
–Click Actions
–Click ”Buddy List Save”
–Sign Off AIM
–Sign onto your 2nd Screen Name
–Click Actions
–Click “Buddy List Load”
To Send your Buddy List in Aim 6.
–Click Actions
–Click Buddy List Save *Note where you saved the File*
–Open an IM with the Buddy
–Click Send File Twice
–Find the *.blt file that you saved and Transfer the File.
Not Working in Aim 6? Try Aim 5.9
To Save your Buddy List in Aim 5.9
–Click on My Aim
–Click on Save Buddy List
Now you can Save and Send your buddy list to whomever you want to. Keep the *.blt file in handy because there might be occasions where your buddy list gets deleted but you don’t remember all the screen names you had. If you didn’t save your buddy list there is no way you can restore it. If you need help type a comment below.

i had a little trouble… it isnt sending to my other sn. ughhh… but i have the plugin downloaded.
You don’t need to send it to yourself since its the same computer. After you save buddy list sign onto your other screen name and press actions load buddy list

i saved it and loaded it but it doesn’t show up. i tried signing out and even loading it again. but it still isn’t there. HELP!
You can also use Aim 5.9 and follow the instructions in the post if 6.1 doesn’t work.
i need to send my buddy list to my linked screen name and when i click action it only has the option of”chat” or “talk”
ok, i got it working, but when i open and IM with my other linked screen name, i dont know what to do after i click send file and find the file…i didnt save it under *blt because it wasnt an option…i guess ill just have to rewrite my whole buddy list…thanx ne way
OK Here’s the point moto
You can’t send a file to yourself, considering you already own the file that your sending..
What your supposed to do is log onto the 2nd screen name only and load the buddy list from there.
For the people that are confused, When I put “send your buddy list” it means Send your buddy list to another person, there’s no need to send it to yourself..
Also moto, when you click Actions > Buddy list Save, it automatically saves it as a *.blt file which you will name. The “files of type” in the Send File window won’t display “*.blt”, but since its saved already you can find it by right clicking in the window, click Arrange Icons By, and select modified. The window will now display all files by date and your file should be the last or first file in order.
okay i did EVERYTHING you said to do. and then i went to “actions” on my new sn. and i clicked LOAD BUDDY LIST or whatever, and it said it loaded successfully but nothing showed up on my buddy list..

Do you know if you can edit the .blt file so that those changes will be applied in the imported buddy list? ( I want the nickname to show on the buddy list im importing)
Well I never thought about that so I took a look inside the BLT file and discovered that it will only import Screen names, not friendly names. You can also delete groups and delete screen names inside the file. In order to view the blt file you need to open it in Notepad.
This did not work at all. It said the buddy list was successfully imported but SO not true.
You can also do it in Aim 5.9 if it doesn’t work for you.

You gotta install the plugin first.
I have downloaded the plugin. I have installed the plugin. When I open AIM 6, I can go to settings/plugins, and I see BL Ops 1.0.0.1 listed and the box is checked. And yet, my Actions button only says chat and talk. thoughts?
Oh i see looks like its down for everyone, we’ll have to wait until they put it back on. Try back tomorrow, or use 5.9 in the meantime to save.
Plugins are controlled by AOL and they have the option to disable the plugin to prevent you from using it even though you have it installed.
is there a way to print out your buddylist??
Open your *.blt file with notepad and print from there.
Ok, I already did this once before.
But, I was on my sidekick trying to add a buddy and it said I couldnt have more than 200 buddies so I deleted some.
Now my bl only has like 200 people.
I already have my bc saved to my computer from previous times.
& now I want to reload it back so I can get all my buddies back.
I click actions and theres not load buddy list thing…
Because you didn’t download or install the plugin
OR the Plugin is down and has to be activated by aol.

When I try to install the plugin i get an eror message that says "This application has failed to start because MSVP71.DLL was not found" anyone know bout this?

hey WBMike we use IM 5.9 at work and I have succesfully created a general buddy list that I load (load buddy list…..) on to users machines and it works great until the user does thier shutdowns and come in the next day and thier old list is back and nit the new one????? ant help would be appreciated.

Ken, ask your workers to load that buddy list from home, sign off, and sign back on, then add one random name to that buddy list, and sign off. Restart the computer and verify the list is the same. At work, allow them to sign on and check if its the same buddy list as it is at home.

This feature is automatically available when you upgrade to Aim 6.8. So my only recommendation now is to download Aim 6.8.
