In part two of the Media Briefing 2nd, they did a talk show and showed some secret footage. He wanted to announce the dates of the Open Beta Test but couldn’t due to the problems that occurred. After some internal testing they will decide upon a date and announce the schedule to you guys sometime around the end of May.

Now over here in the shoutboard and on other sites you may have heard about changes Japanese social games must make to their complete Gacha. A gacha is basically a game where you win random prizes like those toy/candy vending machines outside of stores. Some companies offer a complete gacha that lets you win an extra prize if you win all the major prizes. (Read here for an illustration.) In PSO2′s case, if you collected all 8 outfits on the Gacha sheet, you would have won the Rappy Suit costume.

As a result of this law, the gift you would have received by completing the AC Scratch will have to be removed. This news doesn’t affect the next test’s schedule. Even though the problems that occurred in the CBT resulted in some internal scheduling changes, the official release date has not changed and is still on for Early Summer 2012. The game will continue to be free to play, and you will still be able to download it for free.

He thanks you for completing the survey, he received more than 37,000 entries. Around mid-May he plans to release the Closed Beta Test Report with data collected from the game and survey.

Character Contest

After more than 18000 votes sent in, taking up 1/3 of the votes, “mw” has won the Character Creation contest. She will appear as a character within the game.

Kumanotabi won the producer prize. This character will be 3D printed.

Josan Waver won the Arks Prize. The winner of this prize will receive artwork of their very own character, in fact Mizuno liked this oyaji character.

Those that won the Rappy Prize will receive the Racaseal figure. If you didn’t win don’t fret, Sakai is thinking about future contests where everyone can participate. A symbol art contest, weapon/costume design contest, and illustration contest are some of the things he’s thinking about. If you have any ideas for a future contest, be sure to comment on his blog.

It’s been quite a long time but today we can show the next porori image.

When you played the CBT, you met many story characters in the world of PSO2. In fact, out of these story characters, two of them were original models: Xion and Matoi.

Everyone else that you saw could be created in character creation.* Thus unfortunately, they do not have concept designs. However, you may recall that they each wore unique outfits. So today we’ll introduce the costume concept artwork that the highly popular character “Lisa” wore.

As previously stated, though Lisa wore this outfit, this isn’t her character concept. (Lisa may look very similar but she had the CRAZY EYES!) However, in the official game, you’ll be able to wear this outfit just like Lisa.

 *EDIT Note: Due to some confusion about this I’ll make this clear for new readers. As it was previously mentioned a while back, all the default costumes in character creator were available for free. The rest of the NPC costumes costs Arks Cash. The point was to say that you can create a character who looks just like Afin, or Xeno, in the character creator, but their costumes would cost AC. In fact if you watched the media briefing you would see that Xeno’s and Echo’s costumes are in the AC Scratch.

At the Phantasy Star Online 2 Fan Briefing 2nd, Sakai discussed new features coming up in the next test and beyond! Here are some stats from the previous Closed Beta Test.

• 147,000 CBT Client Downloads
• 131,000 people participated in the Beta.
• Average of 63,000 people login a day.
• 23,500 simultaneous connections.

During the Closed Beta, several disconnections and server issues occurred making the game somewhat unplayable. People also had a difficult time sending in bug reports as the official site ran slowly. Despite this, Phantasy Star Online 2 official release schedule will not change. They will continue to release the game sometime Early Summer 2012.

To make sure these server issues do not reoccur, it is possible that depending on the situation, they may have to perform an additional closed beta test before the Open Beta starts. This CBT2 (or whatever they call it) would only run for a very short amount of time. The details of whether or not this will happen will be discussed at a later time. Sakai just wants to make sure he doesn’t have such network problems when the Open Beta Test starts.

In the Open Beta Test, they will introduce a new field on the planet Lilipa. It’s a planet under a harsh environment covered completely in sand. Throughout the planet you’ll see the remains of structures that apparently were used to collect resources from the planet. Liliipa is a dangerous place filled with robots who attack indiscriminately and Darkers. In the open beta you can level your classes up to level 30. There will also be a Hard Mode for those Level 20+.

The desert field has buildings that are wasting away in the sand.

Be careful, you may come across a new Darker Boss called Gwanahda. He hides in the ground and attacks with his large pincers and many tentacles.

Story Quests will be added to the game, the scenes showed the discovery of small creatures on Lilipa, and a small meeting with the Dragon Tribe on Planet Amduscia. There’s also new characters like ゲッテムハルト Gechtemhalt? voiced by Nubuo Tobita, and Melfonsina voiced by Kana Hanazawa. Furie as seen in this screenshot is voiced by Hisako Kanemoto.

When the official game starts you’ll see brand new costumes and hairstyles that you can obtain from the AC Scratch.

In addition, the official release will add time attack quests which will have a ranking similar to other quests.  The official game plans to add a new field called “Frozen Soil.” This field is on the planet Naberius. Sakai also plans to update the game roughly once per month.

In Part 2, Sakai and Kimura took the stage to discuss about additional features and answer questions from fans. It even looks like they may hold a symbol art contest.

One of the questions asked if it would be possible to move our characters across ships. It appears due to the server issues, this won’t be implemented just yet and is kind of a difficult process to do so. However, they are currently testing this service to see how it pans out.

Another fan asked about the possibility of making Symbol Art outside of the game, the staff may think about it.

Someone asked if there’s going to be an ON/OFF switch for boob jiggling. They don’t have plans to add such a switch but expect to see plenty of sexy costumes.

They are still investigating how they should have the pricing scheme for Arks Cash. They are thinking about charging something like 1AC = 1 Yen? Of course the prices in the CBT aren’t going to be the same as the official game.

There will be 8 types of weapons for the official release, but more will appear later on. During the presentation someone shouted for Double Sabers, and Sakai responded that they’ll put them in. In addition, expect to see the Knuckle weapon category.

Also at the end they showed off a new map. This map was described as a near futuristic mechanical area full of robotic enemies. They didn’t discuss the name of the map but you should expect to see it in the official game.

Of course the Darkers show up everywhere!

Later on PSO2 will implement a Desert Planet, new costumes, new story quests, and a time attack quest.  But for now let’s go through what’s actually coming in the Open Beta.

OBT: New Planet Liliipa

Liliipa: A harsh environment where the whole planet is covered in sand. It has the remains of a civilization that existed once before. In many places there are structures that mine resources from the planet.

The Great Wall!

Desert: An area covered in sand. There’s hardly any traces of lifeforms, but there seems to be robots roaming about. They seem to have lost their masters and attack indiscriminately. The Arks have also confirmed the presence of the Darkers.

OBT: New Enemy

Gwanada

Gwanada: The Desert Boss, a large-sized Darker which lies hidden beneath the sand. Not only does it have large pincers, but it can easily manipulate its many tentacles.

Gilnas

Gilnas: A large machine with a sturdy body. Within its body lies a hidden core. Unless you destroy the core, it will  attack you even if its body is scattered in pieces.

Signogan: Medium sized robot that moves very quickly.

From April 19th to the 26th, the game went through a rough patch of disconnects and lag. After the April 27th server maintenance, they were finally able to solve the problem and the server ran nonstop for 71 hours.  Despite this they still had disconnections, lag, and bugs. In the future he hopes to resolve all the problems people sent in.

Unfortunately the beta testing site was also running slowly, and some people weren’t able to report bugs. Despite this, people still posted their feedback on the BBS. He saw various opinions dealing with the cash and scratch portions of the game. Though the current standard f2p model for pso2 will remain mostly the same, based on user feedback, it could be possible that some of the cash portions of the game may see some changes. But mainly, their goal is to have the basis of the game free to play.

(If you’re new here, feedback is collected through a survey. The producer responds to the feedback informing us of changes that would come into the next testing phase. The specifics on what these changes are will be discussed at a later time. It’s best not to speculate on what these changes will be until it’s posted.)

Another thing is that you should not uninstall your PSO2 Beta Client. They have plans to update the same client for the next test.

At the Akihabara Game Festa, they will show new fields, new bosses, and new features. Look for it at Nico Nico tomorrow night. Also if you attend you will get to see the 2nd part of the briefing with a talk show and secret footage. (Though the press release mentioned that Sakai will show the new field or perhaps it’s something else?)

As for the Open Beta, originally it was meant to start at a relatively early time, but based on the situation that happened in the Closed Beta, the schedule had to be changed. We will discuss the scheduling details of the open beta at another time, for now the development team needs to go through and fix the problems that occurred. You will have to wait a little bit longer until the open beta starts.

We are therefore extending the time of the closed beta test to April 30th, 2012 until 23:00 JST. That’s two extra days of beta testing.

Closed Beta Test Phase 2:

The Return of Mag Cells

In Phantasy Star Online, under certain conditions you could give your mag a “Mag Cell” to change its form into a unique appearance like a Dreamcast. However in PSO2, you can feed mags with items called “Devices.”

Sakai in an interview with Famitsu Connect!on touched briefly about this subject. In PSO2 you can give your mag these devices that will let your mag perform additional actions (see Mag post for details). Some of these devices are cash items. These devices could be used to change the physical appearance of your mag. For example, there could be something that makes the mag look like Sonic.

This May, the Akihabara Game Festival will present two Phantasy Star Online 2 conferences featuring the latest information.

How to get Mags

To get a mag you need to be level 10 and complete the Mag License Client Order given by Koffe. She’s at the west quest counter.

Click the client order マグライセンス授与申請試練 (Mag License) and in the popup press the left button to accept the client order.

Choose the last forest quest and play until Rock Bear Interrupt Events occur. You will need to look for a drop item called Rock Bear Horns. This doesn’t drop very often and will take a few tries before you get one.

After that report back to Koffee, click on the client order with the green icon and press the left button to finish it.

Mag Stats

Level

• When you feed your mag, it will gain levels in a particular stat based on the items you give them.

Energy エネルギー

• You’ll see a bar with a percentage. This is your mag’s energy. When you feed it, your mag will gain energy. However, over time your mag’s energy decreases. When it’s 0% it won’t show its full potential.

Stats

In PSO2 you can now preview how items affect your mag’s stats just by hovering over the item. In addition, your mag’s stats will also affect your player stats.

These are actions the mag will perform automatically. Auto Actions are added when your mag reaches its second form. The actions discovered so far are as follows:

Giving an item feeds your mag. Please be careful not to feed your mag items that you actually need. Once you click the item, it’s sent to the mag.

Use Devices

Devices are special items that can speed up the feeding process. You can acquire devices in Scratch. When you give them devices you may get new trigger actions.

Types of Mags

In the closed beta there are 4 types of Mags.

Raira / Fornax / Lepus / Antria

Raira requires high level in Striking Stat

Fornax requires high level in Range Stat

Lepus requires high level in Technic Stat

Antria requires high level in Ability Stat

Photon Blasts

When your mag evolves, it can perform a photon blast. You should try to stick to one of the first four stats to evolve your mag. Mags are capable at evolving past level 50, but based on your stat arrangement, it may take longer to evolve.

Photon Blasts must be added to the sub-palette. Just click an empty area, and select the second tab to add a button that triggers your photon blast.

When the photon blast is ready, you’ll see a glowing indication by  your HP bar.

There are four types of Photon Blast. Based on data mining, each photon blast has 3 suffixes, “Proi, Imera, and Nifta” Each of these sub types behave differently, for example one may be a rush attack, while another will attack the surrounding area. Generally in the Closed Beta, the “Proi” form is available.

You are not allowed to alter your footage by placing other videos and music or change the playback speed. But you are allowed to alter your player id name and character name. You may also alter the footage to insert the copyright notation. If you are doing a live stream, you can just insert both the copyright notation and the notice above. We recommend getting consent from other players in your livestream.

Your first steps

When you first launch the game, choose the top option to login with your SEGA ID (SEGA IDでログイン). It will then ask for you to set a Player ID Name. Type one in and press the left button, another screen will pop up, again press the left button. The next screen will just ask for you to choose controls the (left button) Keyboard and Mouse or (right button) Gamepad.

Choose the top (キャラクター選択) option to create your first character.

Don’t forget you can save and load characters you made in the Character creation demo. Click クリエイトデータ読み込み to load the character you made before.

You may notice a new option to change your voice. It is slightly a few options above the place where you load your character. Click on ボイス選択 (Voice Selection) to choose a voice.

You can opt to skip the tutorial by selecting bottom option:

Intro to Client Order (Mags)

Throughout the story you’ll come across several NPCs who will ask specific requests for you. We’ll outline what you need to do to unlock these orders.

To get a mag license you must first be level 10. Afterwards go to the west quest counter to find Koffee コフィー. Select the second entry to access her client order. We recommend not doing this Client Order first, instead you should try Koffee’s third Client Order. It will make it much easier to find Rockbears.

Coffy has three Client Orders (an additional one has to be unlocked)

• 1. マグライセンス授与申請試練 (Mag License)
• 2. 武器携帯数拡張申請試練・Ｉ (Weapon Palette Expansion)
• 3. 自由探索許可申請・森林  (Forest Exploration Request)
• 4. 探索許可申請試練・Ｉ(Search Request for *Caves*)
• 5. 自由探索許可申請・火山洞窟 (Caves Exploration Request)
  

Please note the 4th and 5th Client Order on this list will not show up in the same order in game. If you want to get the Caves missions to unlock you need to do the fourth client order. If you want the Caves free field quest to unlock, do the 5th client order. Please read here.

Click on the first one to start the Mag License, in the window popup choose the left button はい (Yes). to start the client order.

Mag License requires you to get 2 Rock Bear Horns.

• ロックベアの角の調達x 2 (Two Rock Bear Horns)

Rockbears will randomly show up in the following missions:

• (ダーカー調査：森林 Darker Investigation)
• (森林探索 Forest Exploration)

Forest Exploration is a free field quest, but you can’t do this quest until you do Coffy’s third client order:

• 自由探索許可申請・森林  (Forest Exploration Request)

The Rockbear horns may rarely drop and it will take a while to acquire them. When you acquire two of them, return to Coffy. Click on the Client Order with the green symbol. Click the left button Yes (はい) to report back to her.

 Matter Board

After you finish the first quest, you’ll be in the Gate Area lobby. Look for an elevator with a bronze symbol near the center of the lobby to transport down to the Shop Area. In that lobby you’ll meet up with Shion who gives you the Matter Board.

The first Matter you must complete wants you to find a ガンスレイヤー Gun Slayer from the Udan enemy. To start the matter, click on the globe and press はい.

Click the quest icon (the spinning globe) and select “マターボード” to access the Matter Board.

When you play regular quests, key items will drop in a gold aura. Once you pick it up and clear the quest you can select the next matter.

When you play B-2 on the Matter Board. Start the quest ザウーダン討伐, it is the first mission in the quest list. Look for a floating tablet like in the screenshot above. This event happens in the first block (Area 1).

When you approach the tablet for B-2 it should say “エコーは何所だ？” (Where’s Echo?) in the top left corner. If it doesn’t you’ll have to restart the quest and try to find it again.

When you fill the two orange orbs on the Matter Board, head to the shopping area to meet up with Shion. This will unlock the Episode 1 Story Quest for you.

Block Changer and My Room Access

When you are in the lobby, there are several “channels” you can transfer to meet your friends. This is the Teleporter that lets you change blocks. When you go inside press the E key to access it. Here you can change blocks and transfer to your room. The entry on the top will let you go to your room.

 Starting a Quest

In the gate area, you can start a quest.

• クエスト一覧から選ぶ Choose Quests
• クエスト中のパーティーに参加する Join a party in a quest
• クエストカウンターを出る Leave the Quest Counter

When you select the first option, the next window has you select a type of quest. Usually you will see Arks Quest, but sometimes throughout the day you may see Emergency Quests.

When you see the quest list menu you can do the following options by clicking on a quest name

• すぐに出発する Immediately Start a Quest
• クエスト中のパーティーに参加する Join a party in a quest.
• クエストレコードを見る View Quest Record

If you choose the top option, you’ll see a new window appear as in the screenshot below:

If you click on the screenshot above, we’ve filled in the essential areas you should know. However underneath the password field are two options, these options are really intended for multi player quest parties.

• パーティーへ参加のみ制限 (Password Protect your party only)
• 他のパーティーからのマルチプレイ要求も制限 (Password Protect other parties as well)

By default the top option will be ticked on. This means that only your party will be password protected. When you reach to a multiparty area, you will see other parties. However by ticking the bottom option, everyone joining your multiparty quest will need to know the password.  

 Character Menu

Now you can click on other players to open up the Character Menu. The easiest way to do so is to press the ESC button so the main menu is open and use your mouse to click on a character. With this menu you can perform the following functions:

• ウィスパーチャットを送る Whisper Chat
• パーティーに招待する Invite to Party
• グッジョブを送る Send Good Jobs
• アイテムトレードを申し込み Request Item Trade
• キャラクター情報を見る View Character Information
• アークスカードを見る View Arks Card
• ブラックリストに登録 Blacklist
• フレンド登録に申し込み Friend Request
• マイルームへ移動 Go to their room.
• モノマネ Mimic

 Tekker Shop Location

The Tekker Shop is located in the Shop Area, on the second level of the rotunda. Bring your ？スペシャルウェポン to her and she can appraise it for a price.

 Direct Chat Mode

Direct chat allows you to type on the keyboard immediately instead of controlling your character. This mode is useful for people with Gamepads. To turn this feature on and off press the scroll lock key. Otherwise press the gear icon in the main menu, and the third entry to reach the options page.

In the topmost category 基本設定 (Basic Settings), expand it and look for Communication Settings コミュニケーション設定. The top entry is for Direct Chat.

• 使用する Turn On
• 使用しない Turn Off.

 Matter Board Goals

To advance the story you need to complete various matters. Each matter in its description will have a Letter and Number combination. For example, in this screenshot B-2 is listed. When we refer to (Area 1) in this list, it means it happens in the first block. Matter Boards highlighted in red are random and may require multiple retries before they drop.

• A-3 Find a ワイヤードオーバー WiredOver drop from the enemy “Udan” (Any Forest Mission)
• A-4 Go talk to ウルク Uruk, you can find her downstairs in the shopping lobby opposite of Zeno.
• A-5 Find a “クレイモア” Claymore drop from the enemy Fongalf (Any Forest Mission)
• B-1 Find a gunslayer drop from an Udan (Any Forest Mission)
• B-2 Play the mission “ザウーダン討伐”  look for a floating tablet in Area 1 to see a cutscene. Look for an event tablet called
  “エコーは何所だ？” (It is the first mission in the quest list.)
• B-3 Go to the Shop Lobby and find Xeno, he will assign a client order you must complete. Afterwards go to the quest counter and complete the mission “フォンガルフ討伐” (Second mission in the quest list). When you are done go back to Zeno and select the client order again and report the information to him. You should see a client order clear appear on the screen once you are finished.
• B-4 Find a “タグバルブ Tag Valve drop from the enemy “Nab Rappy” (Any Forest Mission)
• C-3: Find a “スプレイン” Sprine drop from the Zaudan enemy. (Any Forest mission)
• C-4 Go talk to ジャン Jean, you can find him in the shopping lobby downstairs.
• C-5 Find a  グレイヴ Grave drop from the Agnis enemy. (Agnis are birds in the last forest mission)
• D-1 Find a “リア／ティルトウィンα” drop from the Gorongo. (Forest Missions) Gorongo’s roll up into balls.
• D-2 Play the quest “ナヴ・ラッピー捕獲任務” and look for an event called “オレの名はヒューイ!” in Area 2. (It is the fourth mission in the quest list.)
• D-4 Find a “レッグ／デステレンα” from the Dagan enemy. (Any Mission.)
• D-5 Play the quest “ダガン殲滅任務：森林” and look for an event tablet in Area 1 called “スキルマジすげえって”. (It is the third mission in the quest list.)
• E-1 Play the quest “ダガン殲滅任務：森林” and look for an event called
  “仲良し姉妹アークス” in Area 1. (3rd quest in mission list)
• E-2 Find a “ビーム” Beam from the RockBear Enemy. (Rock Bears are Bosses and random Interrupt Events in Forest Missions, they usually appear in Free Field Quests)
• E-3 Talk to “レダ” Reda, he’s in the shopping lobby a bit away from the makeup counter.
• E-4 Find a “アーム／ティタスティンα” unit from the Galf enemy (Any Forest mission)
• E-5 Find a “ストライカー” drop from the Vriada. (Later Forest Missions)
