Tiny Flash Music Player iJigg

logo2.gifThere’s one thing going for iJigg, its tiny and cute flash widget for playing music is very stylish. It fits so well with white layouts and does everything inside its widget just incase you want to embed it for another site. iJigg enforces its rules against music you do not own. That might deter it from the myspace crowd since all music must be original. However people will still get around this by posting obscure music to be hosted.  I support Non-RIAA music and this site encourages it too. Indie bands are encouraged to post their music on their site where users can Jigg to vote for their music.

iJigg Flash Widget is scalable and transparent through HTML editing

Store Music and Create a Radio Station with MediaMaster

Music Widgets          Trackback

logo-mediamaster-com.gifWow if there’s ever a company to do so many things right, it has to be Media Master. First and foremost the biggest plus I’ve seen is the ability to upload multiple files in one single session. Yes you can do that on other music sites as such but, the difference here is that I can select multiple files and add them all together without having to open the window multiple times. This means basically, you can drag within the window, select the files you want, and Save. This method hasn’t been used in that much online storage sites at all. They expect you to either select one file at a time or install some bulky activeX or Java applet to do the same thing. Besides this, one of its coolest features is playing your music as a radio station. So you can remotely whip up winamp and play the songs you’ve uploaded. Make sure that you drag the files to the Radio tab or else they won’t play. The widget on the other hand is a little uncostomizable, my biggest gripe with it is that its not scalable at all so you have to leave it as it is. The next problem is that I’d like to control what people hear. Instead users have access to your whole music library by clicking on each playlist type. This is not good for the company itself as many people will be putting RIAA music up. The RIAA  can see all those songs and do a DMCA takedown notice for each and every file you uploaded. Its a solid servie but with a little more customizable rules for what others hear, it might actually work out in the end.

MediaMaster does not natively support scalability, and transparency, you must edit HTML to activate.

Merge 2 RSS Feeds together with FeedBlendr.

RSS Widgets          Trackback

feedblundr.gifAround the time I began making my site, I was looking for a host to merge 2 feeds together to be used on “feed2js.” Feed2js is a javascript code that displays RSS feeds based on your CSS customizations. This left me in a pickle, I not only had to merge two feeds together, but I also had to make sure that the site was feed merging site was up and running, as well as the fee2js site. If one of the sites went down then everything went bonkers. FeedBlendr instead intergrates everything into one site. They even host the Javascript code for you so you don’t have to run around searching for it. Unlike feed2js, they don’t have a generator for CSS styles so your basically will have to write everything from scratch. I tested FeedBldendr with 2 AOL Message Boards RSS, those feeds are pretty buggy in itself but they do work from the site.  FeedBlendr instead got confused and spit out one entry instead of the whole list of entries that were supposed to displayed. However, FeedBlendr worked much better when using Mashable and TechCrunch’s feeds.

Flagr, Map Bookmarking

Map Widgets          Trackback

logo_sm.pngAside from the crazy amounts of Map sites out there, this one seems to work a tad different from the rest. In Flagr, you flag maps with bookmarks on the places you have visited or you can add interesting places you know about. Users are able to write small blurbs about these places and add photos and videos of their travels. For example, you can click on Alcatraz and see photos inside the facility. One of the cool features at this site is being able to join any map that has been created. This creates collaborative group project where you can, for example, have everyone place where the filthiest bathrooms are around the world. Another interesting feature has you adding bookmarks from your cellphone. Write a text message email with the location and the map’s email address and it will be added to the map. The only gripes I have about this site is how slow it can be. Sometimes I’ll have to zoom in and out just to force the map to load. Clicking on “Flags” gives the site horrendous loading times.

Click2Map Another Google Map Tool.

Map Widgets          Trackback

logo_100.gifSimilar to the MyMaps feature, Click2Map promises to provide an easy way to place notes on maps. Unfortunately for this service it has become obsolete due to Google’s recent upgrade. It still is in beta so alot more can be added to seperate itself from MyMaps, and its much faster than Google in adding a marker. Markers also quickly give you the detail on longitude and lattitude so that might be helpfull somewhere.  What I’m really looking for in a Google Map service is where you can basically click on a road and have all local buisnesses show up in that particular location. Even maybe outline with side of the road its on. Thats a good Hint Hint to all the web developers out there.

BubbleShare, A Free Online Album

Image Widgets          Trackback

header-logo.gifBubbleshare has been around for a long time, and its claim to fame has been its album creation software. With your choice of Flash or ActiveX code you can upload all your pictures easily into the site. However when that is done, it appears all the images are resized so they fit inside their album viewers. Aside from that, they also allow you to create a very beautiful slideshow widget to be placed on your site. Click on Blog Album while your in a Album View to see various slideshows you can insert into your site. Also notice how clean and square they are. Their designs does not distract viewers away from your site.

EyeStride - Create and Share Tours

Uncategorized          Trackback

eslogo.jpgEyeStride may be currently in beta, but it has a small little feature that can be done without having to install Google Earth. You can create a tour around anywhere, and upload your photos of your trek. The basic premise is, you start out by selecting your location and at every point of interest you upload a photo. After your done, you submit and it gets uploaded online. From there your friends and family can “relive” your tour by following through all the pictures. The service sounds similar to other Map widgets out there but time will tell if it will lift off. Unfortunately you need to download software first to upload your tour online.

Convert Files Online with ZAMZAR

File Conversion          Trackback

zamzar-logo.jpg ZAMZAR is an online file conversion too allowing you to convert from a selection of files into whatever format is available. Unfortunately it has to send an email when its available. Unlike the other service MediaConnect, you won’t see the results on the same page. I tested out using a High Quality transparent PNG and convert it into JPG. The results weren’t up to my standards and a little bit blurry but it came out fine. It chose black as the background color instead of white though.  Since its in Beta it will take a while for it to be up to my level.

My Maps Google Maps

Map Widgets          Trackback

Google MapsGoogle unveiled My Maps service, you can call it your poor man’s Google Earth, as some of the extra features that Google Earth uses has now been added into My Maps. My Maps requires users to log in to add placemarks, lines, and notes. You can easily export your placemarks into Google Earth. Within your Maps you can add any videos or photos of your travels. These will be included in the search results of Google Maps, you can also alternatively decide to keep your Maps private for only a select few.

Film Loop Image Slideshow

Image Widgets          Trackback

newlogotagline.gifOk FilmLoop may not technically be a complete Web App, but it still gets the job done online. In FilmLoop, users can create slideshows with texts, frames, and more. The only drawback is that you must download the software to your computer first. It is basically a glorified advertising filled slideshow maker with some extra features. It makes little sense to go this route when there are so many that do this online. Your only added extra benefit though is that you don’t have to install any Javascript image viewer to upload your photos. Those viewers make it slow to navigate folders of users like me who store an incredible amount of photos. FilmLoop gets major kudos for having one of the cleanest flash slideshow out there. A nice rectangle box without any fancy schmancy effects can be placed neatly in any design. However you’ll have to scroll through some of the different slideshow types to get it.
